Christmas Trips

If you could go anywhere for a Christmas break where would you go?

Last year was a sad Christmas. This is our second Christmas following a family bereavement and also a relocation, so with no local friends for company. We are thinking a two or three night trip would help, between Christmas and New Year. Any clever ideas? Don't really know where to start.

With or without children? Uk or abroad? Sun or City?

With children (school age), UK, or perhaps Europe, city rather than sun. :)

Cottage in the countryside somewhere? Get Tesco to deliver yummy food and go for walks, sit by fire etc?

Or Berlin, or Budapest or Prague? All fab cities with loads to see.

Just to say that many European cities are very very cold that time of year - I went to Brussels at new year and it was -14 degrees c. But I've also been to cologne for the Christmas markets and the temperature was frosty but dry and sunny so really lovely. I'd recommend Germany or Austria for the markets, so much fun!

We went to Budapest last year between Christmas and New Year. It was beautiful. Of course it was cold but with the right clothes it's still fine for wandering round the city, stopping every now and then for gluhwein to warm us up.
We rented an apartment in the city centre for a lot less than a hotel, and it's still pretty cheap for eating and drinking.

Butlins is good (yes the snobs among you may laugh!). Very Christmassy, no cooking if you go full board and a good panto and grotto. Plenty of activities to take your mind off sad stuff.

We fly out to Disneyland Paris at 6am on Boxing Day last year. It was fantastic. We had a quiet Xmas day, presents and a snack type dinner, drove to airport, had supper then got up the next morning and flew to Paris for 3 nights.

Oh Red, that's what we're doing this year, except train rather than plane. Disney tickets will be under the tree, and we're walking distance from Eurostar the next morning. Where did you stay?

Winter wonderland at Center Parcs. We love it, but it gets a mixed response on MN. Great for families and lots of activities.

We stayed at the Newport but have stayed at the NYC also
