Spode - Christmas Tree Dining Set

I've started collecting pieces from Spode China Christmas Tree.

I can't work out if it's tacky or not but I feel I need to start collecting a nice Christmas dining set and it's hard to find anything decent in the UK.

Does anyone else use it at Christmas?

Why do you feel like you need a nice Christmas dining set? It has Christmas trees on it so you will use it once a year. Out of curiosity are you American? The only people I know with Christmas decorated dining sets are American?

Buy a nice dining set that you can use for other occasions.

I have the odd pieces of Christmas china which I love and use alongside a white dinner service. I don't think I could justify the expense or the storage space for the full set

True I see your points. Nope not American but I love the effort they put into Christmas.

I think what you do is right scousadelic. The stuff I have will go well with a plain dining set however the key pieces will give it the Christmas feel I'm after :)

I have a couple of Spode Christmas Tree pieces (a rectangular tray for After Eights, and a plate)
And some Portmerion Holly and Ivy ( plates, pudding basin and custard/cream jug)

They match in with my white crockery and I do have an Ivy patterned dinner set (though it's not specifically for Christmas)
I don't think I'd let anyone eat off Spode plates , I'd be wayching them hawklike in case they scratched them with a knife

I bought some in TKMaxx years ago (it was about 2004, in the September, we were in Yorkshire for my DParents Wedding Anniversary).

I'll be looking in HomeSense/ TKMaxx periodically (they get Christmas stock in around/before Hallowe'en )

I don't think I'd have a whole set but I love my Emma Bridgewater 'Joy' serving dish and mugs.

They come out every year for the whole of December.

I bought a Christmas dinner service from B&M last year. It was cheap but served us well for the 10 days over Christmas that we used it. I will be getting it out again this year. It's white with a silver trim, with little Santa's and rudolphs around the rim. I love it, despite it being a little tacky ??

Ive Spode Christmas tree breakfast bowls which get used over Christmas and a lovely white dinner set from matalan. It has silver trees with bare branches on and is very lovely. And not too precious so happy to let people eat off it!

I fancy getting a few nice pieces of Christmassy stuff but can't choose which design and which bits to get so put it off year after year. I too would only a get few bits rather than the whole set as apart from anything else it would be a pain to store it for 364 days a year.

I would like to get some platters etc, and jugs for Xmas cocktails. Can anyone link to nice sets? I've put it off for years but every Christmas I think it's a shame I don't have something special.

I have a few nice Christmas mugs at home that come out for all of December, and a few tacky ones too. A set of a plastic dinner plate, small plate, bowl, cup and 3 glasses - for DD mostly but we all use the glasses on occasion, again in use all December.

I have a nice 3-bowl nibbles serving dish (not a clue who by) that I bring out on Christmas Day and up to New Years.

I got a lovely, tiny, holly jug in September 2 years ago (when scattering DGran's ashes!) in Donegal, that I use for cream with the pudding. Not spode but it was a naice (traditional English) pottery company.

I also have 2 Christmas mugs that I use in work, generally I try to keep those for winter, but they are my BIG mugs so can appear all year round depending on my need for copious amounts of tea to keep me going .

I usually use my Denby (imperial blue) service for Christmas dinner and other "good" meals, or large meals. The everyday plates are plain white but I only had 6 (and now 4) of those, so when visitors come, the Denby comes out (serves 10 for dinner, and I can do 24 for coffee in cups, another 6 or so in mugs!!! An aunt was getting rid of her extra cups a couple of years back so gave me some more).

I have plans this year to make a table runner, so that will give some festiveness to the table instead.

I have a plate/bowl/cup set from pound stretcher a few years ago, pound stretcher and b&m seem to do same one pattern just changes slightly each year x
