Stockings in bedrooms or downstairs

DH and I had them in the bedroom when we were kids, and DCs have always had them in their bedroom. But as they are getting a bit older, they dont sleep so well on Xmas Eve and its stressful trying to creep in in the middle of the night.

Is it easier ( may be even better/more sensible) to put stockings downstairs by the fire?

Oh and all the girls opened their stockings together before coming into our bedroom to show us what they had.

My 3 year old niece told Santa the other week that he can't put her stocking in her bedroom because he has dirty boots and she has a new pink carpet.

Our DD's stockings get hung on their bedroom door. Much easier that way.

Our DCs' stockings go in their bedrooms but I can so see the attraction of leaving them outside the door or next to the tree. It is so stressful trying to smuggle them out, fill them and smuggle them back in again - especially as DD's has a bell, honestly, who thought that would be a good idea! As others have said it is the most adrenalin-filled moment of my year! FC usually also brings something to change their rooms, e.g. posters or wall stickers, he brought them new lamps one year. Last year FC also brought furniture for DD's dolls house with the stockings and getting all that in and set up was bloody ridiculous quite frankly. I was half asleep all day on Christmas Day.

This year, FC is decorating the cupboard under the stairs and making it into a little play area. Keeping that secret for months has been a feat. We have finishing touches for that to do tomorrow night so stockings will be the least of my worries!

Can I ask a quick one here - if you've bought stuff off their list, does that all go in stockings/pillowcases as though from FC? I've just realised I've wrapped the asked for presents as though from us, not FC

Ours go by the fire because when I was a child. The idea of a strange man in my bedroom scared me shitless.

Now I welcome strange men in my bedroom ;)

In our house FC gathers and delivers the presents, but we pay for them. The elves need food/accommodation/pension scheme. The reindeers need magic hay!!! So presents are in effect joint from us and FC.

Grandparents asked FC to deliver their ones too, so they buy them and send them to him!!!

Seems pretty confusing, but as yet remains unquestioned by dds!!

Ours go in their bedrooms on the little fireplaces in them - it would be rude not to!

Main presents are downstairs on the hearth in the living room though. So we do stockings on our bed and then all head downstairs together.

Grin @ Iwaswatching. Love the idea of elf pension schemes.

I think I'll do a quick re-wrap of one so it's in the pillowcase.
