Christmas day dessert for young children

I've got 12 coming for Christmas dinner and am all sorted for pudding for the adults - homemade Christmas Pudding with brandy sauce or an alternative cheesecakey, trifley type thing that MIL is bringing.

But I've got DD and her cousin (both 4) and I'd like to get them a special something. They're very unsophisticated in their tastes - their favourite pudding is ice cream, closely followed by chocolate mousse. They'd be thrilled with a dollop of ice cream for pudding and would pass out with excitement if I topped it with some chocolate sauce. But I just thought it would be nice to find a jelly Santa or an ice cream snowman or something, just to make it festive.

But I can't find anything. I've looked in Sainsburys, Waitrose and M&S but no joy. All the desserts are very sophisticated, adult-style and - not only do I think they won't appreciate it - I don't particularly want to spend that kind of money.

I COULD make them something but I don't really have the time or the inclination. So - has anybody seen anything fun and simple for children in the shops. Or - failing that - a super-easy recipe that I could rustle up in no more than 10 minutes on Christmas Eve?

Mine is creating a snowman in case that wasn't obvious.

We are doing Santa kebabs! Cocktail stick with a grape on the bottom, followed by a slice of banana, an upside down strawberry and a mini marshmallow. They look like Santa heads with the red hat on top. Then a bowl of melted chocolate to dip into. It could be made in advance in 5 mins and stored in the fridge until needed.

Cadbury are doing Christmas cake things (like the Easter nest cakes they do) - one of those with some ice cream?

A gingerbread man to decorate? A gingerbread house?

I love the ice cream snowman idea.

I'm making this ridiculously easy nutella cheesecake for my DC's Christmas day pudding. I made it last year and they loved it, as did all the adults who visited and asked if they could have it too!

We are doing ice cream, brandy snaps and berries for the kids.

I had these from M&S the other day- just got them in a pack of two, not six though. They just tasted like chocolate mousse with little bit of sponge cake for the base and a couple of rice crispies on top, not too adult flavours at all. Plus they look very festive!

Or how about the ice cream with chocolate sauce with edible stars and glitter sprinkled on top.

Last year Sainsburys did an ice cream Santa's grotto. Are they doing anything similar this year?

There are some great ideas there littlemissgreen! I like the ice cream bauble. Might give that a good myself!

Baskin Robbins are doing ice cream cakes in snowman and Santa shapes if you have one nearby?

A v easy homemade one is melted chocolate combined with crushed digestive biscuits. Form into balls and leave to set (I just keep adding biscuit crumbs until just before I think it can't cover any more). Once set pour over melted white chocolate and you have yourself a mini chocolate Christmas pudding. Or you could buy a yule log, maybe combine with ice cream.

Do them a Chocolate Cup - smallish balloons, dip bottom half nto melted chocolate and put in the fridge. Once set, pop the balloons and ta daa edible ice cream bowls.

Scoop of ice cream, top with choc.sauce, edible glutter and mini marshmallows.

Iceland do Xmas tree ice creams on a stick, cheap as chips

I like the idea of giving them the icecream they love but to make it extra special by adding marchmallows, cream, sprinkles, fruit, sauce, flakes, sweets etc.

And/or adding these

DS's school did ice-cream Xmas trees for their Xmas lunch and the children are still talking about it! I assume all the kitchen did was squash icecream into a mould or cookie cutter. Seemed to have the wow factor for the children.
