Thread for trying to figure out what the hell my 4yo is talking about. . .

. . .when he says he wants Father Christmas to bring him 'a boat that goes up and down'?

It's not a submarine (I've asked).

I've not seen any adverts on the telly for anything like this.

One time he mentioned that he could take it in the bath, but that seems to be secondary.

He seems to have something very specific in mind and he doesn't tend to imagine toys, so I think this is something he's seen somehow, but he can't explain what it is.

This is just like the time when he kept telling me he wanted to go to a restaurant, and I'd ask which one, and he'd tell me 'Kids', which according to him was this marvellous place where everything was for kids and they had menus and brought lots of food to your table. About 2 weeks later we were driving and he started shouting, 'there's Kids!' - It was Pizza Hut, he'd gotten confused about the 'Kids Menu'.

So back to matter at hand, anyone seen any 'boats that go up and down' that aren't submarines?

octonaut gups?

Littlemousewithcloggson · 13/12/2013 20:21

I was thinking octonauts too!

YankNCock · 13/12/2013 20:21

I don't think so, he would have definitely mentioned Octonauts, but I'll put that on the list of pictures to show him just in case!

Hmm there was an advert on one of the kids channels recently for some kind of game that had a rocking ship...? It may have involved pirates...

ImaginativeNewName · 13/12/2013 20:26

Some kind of speed boat? (The up and down motion iyswim)

YankNCock · 13/12/2013 20:26

One of the times he was talking about it, I got the idea that the boat had a lift inside it, which seems odd. Also I think he said something about it having a 'top floor and a bottom floor'.

DH and I wondered if maybe it was a toy ferry? Or something with a lifeboat that went up and down?

I think it was this www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00D8RWGKY/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1386966446&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX110_SY165

There is a game out with a rocking boat which has penguins on I think. You have to keep the penguins on the boat.

BertieBowtiesAreCool · 13/12/2013 20:29

Maybe a pirate ship that opens up to have a deck and a bit below deck?

YankNCock · 13/12/2013 20:30

Hmmmm....possible, just think it's odd he'd have left out the detail about there being penguins, but it will go on the list!

Maybe "Bucky" from Jake and the Neverland Pirates?

YankNCock · 13/12/2013 20:31

Come to think of it, if it is anything to do with pirates, it's odd he didn't mention pirates during the million conversations we've had about this sodding 'up and down boat'.

Mum2Fergus · 13/12/2013 20:32

Bucky from Jake and the Nwverland Pirates goes up n down when you push it along ...

YankNCock · 13/12/2013 20:33

maybe this jake and the neverland pirates, it says it has a trap door to the lower deck?

blackandwhiteandredallover · 13/12/2013 20:35

Or playmobil?

YankNCock · 13/12/2013 20:38

Have found a playmobil 'Family Yacht' which has two levels, so a possibility, but I'm not getting him that. Imagine the looks, 'Darling, let's get home so you can play with your yacht'.

Can we ask him to narrow down what colour the boat is?

Who goes in the boat?

Is the boat on TV or do any of his friends have one like it?

InTheRedCorner · 13/12/2013 21:09

You need to teach him to use the sky pause button for when he sees it again and then make him watch TV all day [ grin]

breatheslowly · 13/12/2013 21:14

Can you show him the different ones suggested on this thread "because Father Christmas asked you to check exactly which one he wants"?

onetiredmummy · 13/12/2013 21:19

Get a catalogue from toys r us or smyths and see if he can find it in there. If you let him have a pen and to circle everything he likes he may find something even better Smile

breatheslowly · 13/12/2013 21:26

Or pull up boat toys on Amazon and scroll through to see if he recognises any.

raisah · 13/12/2013 21:41

Is it possible to show him the Argos catalogue? Its not going to be a surprise but you need some help in finding out what it is.

Lesshastemorespeed · 13/12/2013 21:54

Imaginext?

BikeRunSki · 13/12/2013 22:03

Are there any tie in toys for 0ld Jack's Boat?

YankNCock · 13/12/2013 22:35

He hates Old Jack's Boat so pretty sure it's not that. I think tomorrow we'll have a look through all these suggestions and see if any of them are what he's after.

Blondie has some good 'narrowing' questions, I'll try those as well!

IntheRedCorner, he's pretty good with the pause on the Virgin Media box, I might just try that!!

Will come back and update if I figure it out, thanks everyone.
