Coffee gifts??

So I'm getting a few bits and pieces for my parents and they are both big coffee lovers so I wanted to get a nice selection of different coffee beans for them.

I popped into Whittards but could only find a massive £20 box of about 8 big bags of beans...I want it to be a small part of their present so looking to spend about £8, no more than £10, on a small selection of maybe 3 or 4 different beans. I would like something that looks like a nice gift rather than just heading into Sainsburys and picking up a few bags! I thought it would be easy but having no joy...loads of tea gift packs like this but can't find a coffee one.

Anyone have any idea where I can get something like this (NOT Starbucks!)

And not flavoured coffee!

P.s. Huge apologies for starting this thread with the word 'So'...don't know what I was thinking!

Are there any Christmas food fayres nearby? I bought some small packets of different coffe beans at one recently.

gaggiagirl · 11/12/2013 11:01

Get thee to e bay! I normally get a little 25g bag of coffee to see if I like it. Its about £2 you could get a nice selection for £8. Failing that if you have a local independent coffee shop you could buy a few bags from there.
if you are near Newcastle I can recommend pink lane coffee and pumphreys or fenwicks food hall.
Next option would be a whittards outlet shop....so much cheaper than the proper shop.

How about this?

ClaimedByMe · 11/12/2013 11:05

Every year I order dp a mixed coffee hamper from coffee-direct.co.uk, he loves them, I get beans as he likes grinding them himselves but they will grind them for you.

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 11/12/2013 11:26

anywhere near a betty's? they sell coffee by weight and can give you a selection. I've done that for my uncle in the past, I ordered a lb of his favourite and asked for a selection of others that he might like based on his favourite for a total of £10, I think I got 4 small bags so roughly £2.50 for a few filters worth each one.

Thanks all. I never even thought to look on Amazon or Ebay! Will check out some local markets too.

soontobe, this was the one I saw in Whittards...that's quite a hefty discount! Still a bit more than I wanted to spend but I'm actually really tempted to just get it as it is lovely. Wish the coffee wasn't ground though!

Littlemiss, that looks like a lovely option too. Thank you!

hasbean

Mathis lot roast to order, their coffee is way fresher and more varied than any high street shop.

The Christmas blend is usually lovely and I see they are doing a starter pack for £20

Only one problem, their coffee is highly addictive, your parents may not thank you. (I dare not add up Our monthly coffee bill, DH orders it, but I suspect it runs to about the same as this iPhone)

NoComet · 11/12/2013 11:36

This lot

Coffee beans in chocolate copying an idea a workmates brought back from an italian holiday (& lush)

raisah · 11/12/2013 22:04

Not quite what you asked for but have you considered coffee bags? These are perfect for work, travelling and anytime, there is just the right amount of ground coffee to make the perfect filter coffee without the hassle of equipment.

Have you tried that Java and Rosie place in Richmond (on that alley that runs behind house of Fraser?). They might be able to put something together for you?

Notawordfromtheladybird · 11/12/2013 23:33

I'm a coffee lover and I wouldn't want any coffee (in basically lovely packaging) from the shop in your OP.

Try an independent roaster. This one is online and they sell some fantastic (but expensive) non-electric type of equipment to make a proper (poncey) cuppa.
