Eating out - etiquette

We're having Christmas lunch out this year in a restaurant just down the road from us, it's kind of mid rage in regards to how naice it is, it's not a book months in a dance Michelin type place bout it also isn't a standard Harvester type affair.

Anyways, I'm not sure what to do in regards to DS3, he's 1 now and in a delightful phase of spitting food out he doesn't fancy and lobbing it on the floor.

They provide high hairs at this place but I was wondering if it might be alright to take a disposable mat to put underneath the highchair so I can whip it away when we're done. I'd clean up after him either way but he does make excess mess and I'd hate for staff to be picking up after him and any bits I'd missed, especially on Christmas Day!

So do you think this would be alright or a is everyone going to look at me a bit strangely?

I would say that was a great idea.

blimey you are very thoughtful, I've waited tables and just accepted after kids at a table you need to do a sweep but from a parent perspective --and fellow overthinker-- a disposable floor mat would stop me stressing over the mess on the floor and feeling guilty about it.

I'd say it depends on whether the restaurant is carpeted or has a hard floor. If a carpet, then it's a great idea. If hard floor, then it's not that hard to clear up really, so may not be necessary. Still considerate though.

I don't remember is it's carpeted or not! I do remember just how much food DS is capable of lobbing in the floor in various stages of chewedness, I think I'll take one just incase.
