You could try calling JL customer services on 08456 049 049. I have done this previously and they have checked their stores nationwide. The store has then called me and taken payment over the phone and posted the item to me.

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 28/11/2013 17:10

They're not actually listed on the JL website so my guess would be that they're fake. Having just looked some up on ebay, they all look the same and none of them look anything like the characters on the ad. The ad was made with Disney so I would have thought that they'd have a hand in the merchandise and I can't find anything anywhere.

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 28/11/2013 17:14

Oh no, you might be right, they just don't look very good to me.

Lampie · 28/11/2013 17:19

Just checked for you and John Lewis are completely sold out and will not be getting anymore so looks like Ebay is only option. It really annoys me that people buy them just to turn a massive profit.

givemeaclue · 28/11/2013 17:20

Get the 'guess how much I love you' hare instead. Your child is two they will not know difference.

usualsuspect · 28/11/2013 17:23

Why the hell have they sold out?

They are just soft toys, talk about being sucked in by advertising.

SpookedMackerel · 28/11/2013 17:23

I'm betting your two year old won't know or care if they are actual John Lewis merchandise.
Buy her a white bunny and a brown teddy - Jelly cat? Ty beanie babies? I know they both do little white bunnies, and I bet they do brown bears too!
I'm sure you'll easily find a nice pair, and I'm sure your daughter would love them just as much as the JL ones. You could always get her the John Lewis bear and hare book to go with them.

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 28/11/2013 18:03

They're both the same size as well, they don't look right. In the advert the hare is obviously much smaller than the bear. Get her a small hare and a big fluffy brown bear that look the right sizes and she'll be none the wiser.

LIZS · 28/11/2013 18:07

JL had bear but not hare in stock online earlier this week - the available range has shrunk somewhat since here

avalu · 28/11/2013 20:21

Thanks for all your help and advise. I managed to get the hare from the JL distrubution centre today but no luck with the bear. If anyone comes accross one Id really appreciate it if you could let me know x

Bump.

Did you manage to find the bear?

SarahPercyAndBill · 02/12/2013 16:54

I just saw a bear that looked exactly like the one from the advert in an independent shop and noted down the brand name KOSEN. It's a German manufacturer and they have lots of beautiful brown bears when you google them - in fact, they look more like the animated advert bear than john lewis' versions here is one uk distributor but that's not their full range

MARGUERITE18 · 04/12/2013 08:22

ikea do nice bears and hares if she wouldn't notice a difference

Dillydollydaydream · 04/12/2013 08:31

The guess how much I love you nutbrown hare looks quite similar.

petitdonkey · 04/12/2013 20:35

There were shelves full of the things in our JLHome the other day!! I can look tomorrow if you like?

avalu · 04/12/2013 23:44

I would really appreciate that petitdonkey :)

Sorry, I can't help, but I saw this and realised that I haven't ever even seen the advert on tv. I saw a link to it on you tube, watched a bit of it, and haven't seen it since! With all the merchandise you can buy, I'm surprised it's not on more. Hope you get what you're after soon :)

sezley17 · 05/12/2013 20:23

Hello, I'm kind of amazed at the reaction to the bear and hare merchandise, partly because I had a hand in designing the plush bear and hare which have flown off the shelves. Yes, Disney were involved in the animation, but the merchandising was handed out to different companies by John Lewis. The Bear and Hare toys, were never meant to copy the animation straight off, they needed to have a cuter appeal than that, otherwise they'll just look like something you'll pick up from the Disney store.. and if you were to pick one up, you realise that the manufacturing quality is very good, the fur is amazingly soft. I can't quite believe how silly the demand has got for them, and I think it's unfortunate that people have bought up numbers of them just to sell them on at a profit. It's seems that maybe John Lewis has never knowingly undersold, but they have knowingly understocked!

Guitargirl · 05/12/2013 21:10

My Mum reckoned they had them in John Lewis in Cardiff today. I had asked her if she could try and track down a giftbag which she managed to find there and she said she saw the bears. I guess they could have been random bears instead of 'the' bear but she reckoned they were with all the other merchandise so might be worth calling them?

Retropear · 05/12/2013 21:59

eBay are selling 5 rolls of wrapping paper for £150!Shock

Bonkers!

Guitargirl · 05/12/2013 22:03

I know, I know, I saw that - it's nuts!

I bought 3 rolls last week - DP is eyeing them up, have told him to keep his mitts off them or if I turn my back they will end up on ebay!

hallowisitmeyourelookingfor · 05/12/2013 22:17

A hundred and fifty quid for wrapping paper? FFS, JL merchandising will become a victim of its own success soon. People will get annoyed by its over popularity.
Clever really, for an advert that was about true non-commercialised meaning of Christmas Confused
