The Book People have several books on whisky.
Membership of the Malt Whisky Society.
If you know what whisky he likes look on that brands website and see what special versions/gifts they do, or buy a 1/4 strength cask of his favourite. Or if huge budget buy a different one for each month of the year so he gets to taste a few new ones.

Zebdee - what's your budget? How odd to collect but not drink?

My husbands a whisky expert so can advise you tomorrow if that any good?

If he's into unusual whiskey contact the drinksmonger in Pitlochry, Perthshire. I've got ddad a signature whisky from a local distillery distilled in a mature (expensive - over £245 a bottle type whisky) Highland Park barrel. Expensive for us at £63, but only 700 bottles from that original barrel/batch and all signed and numbered. They also gave anything you need re whisky but I went personally so don't have website x

Aargh! Why did it change to whiskey?! Genuine Scotch!!!

Figure out a whisky he likes, find their website and join (should be free) their fan club thing, then they'll send you xmas pres ideas every year of stuff you can't necessarily get at all if you're not in the fan club.

Ideally, if you can be bothered, set up a junk email account and use it to join all the whisky fan clubs you can find - then you can see who is offering the best xmas pressie stuff the cheapest :)

BTW they're not really called "fan clubs". They're called something like "Friends of Laphroig" or whatever. Mature-sounding, y'know Wink

How about, if he makes his friends drink them, something like some small bottles from Vom Fass? They have some very nice whiskies including Tomintoul which is my fave, and Vom Fass was the only stockist in Manchester for a while and they come in small bottles with the names handwritten on. Your DSF could then have a whisky tasting challenge night with his friends to guess the malt? Only he would know from the writing on the back of the bottle.

I think vom fass will be it. Thank you Smile
