I have tried to make this a couple of times, and it is never as rich and sticky as it has been when I have eaten it elsewhere - so does anyone have a foolproof recipe, please?

Jamie Olivers recipe. Its cooked in balsamic vinegar with apple red onion and fennel seeds. It is fool proof and delicious.

Thomas Keller has a recipe for this in the French Laundry cookbook.

Here is an exhaustive / exhausting description of what it's like to cook.

I like delia's. Using bramley apple helps with the stickiness.

I like Delia's with apples too - real winter food!

I second the vote for the Jamie Oliver recipe. It's the best I've tried and the bacon makes it extra Christmassy.

Thank-you all - I will give these recipes a try. I like the idea of one with balsamic vinegar in, because we are having goose, and that will balance the richness of the meat.

Balsamic vinegar and some sugar.
For one cabbage abojt a mug of balsamic - cheap is fine and half a mug of sugar.
You may need to check and add a bit of water if it starts to catch.

I do Delia's too, beautiful

I like this one from the BBC site. The potato stacks are good too. I miss out the raisins.

There's a really lovely recipe on the Abel and Cole website. Very festive too! Yum x
