Gingerbread house kits...

This is a wee tradition we have developed... have tried out ikea, B&M and Aldi kits and Aldi are the best by far. However, my branch doesn't seem to be selling them this year; only the ready made up ones.

Was wondering if anyone else had recommendations? Have seen a build your own gingerbread village in lakeland and john lewis but think i'd rather a bargainous one £7 or under. I prefer the ones with everything in the box - all sweets and embellishments etc. So where do you suggest?

(One year i bought a set of cutters to do it from scratch. What was I thinking?? Far too lazy for that!)

I have just picked up a complete kit for £7 in Tesco (went in for a sledge, came out with a gingerbread house :o)
No idea what it will be like though......,

I bought mine from Lidl for a fiver. We do Lidls every year and find it easy enough.

Someone told me Aldi get there sets in later, after they have had their ready made ones in. Not sure if that is true though, might be worth asking in store.

We have the Lidl one, as Aldi only had the ready put together ones.

We got a Halloween gingerbread house in Asda in October which was fantastic. The gingerbread actually tasted nice! The sweets that came with it were awful, but we always use our own anyway.

Might be worth trying Asda to see if there's a Christmas version. It was only £5.

We always do the Village Workshop Santa's Stuck mini kit £7.50 on Amazon as it's fun and not much to eat up.

Always bought it from our local farm shop.

I bought one in Morrisons a couple of weeks ago for £4.99. Not opened it yet though, and this will be the first time I've made one.

OddFodd · 25/11/2013 11:24

I got one in Asda the other day after reading that Lidl has no plans to stock them this year. Damn - would have preferred the Lidl one!

Thank you! You've given me a few to explore...

I bought one from tiger for £3. Tiger is a Swedish cheap shop, but they have good quality items. Most of their stores are in London though.

Anyone tried the IKEA one? I got one from the drugstore/Boots type place (am in Canada) the last two years but it really didn't even taste good so am contemplating the IKEA one this year but wondering if it's worth the trip!

poppy1973 · 25/11/2013 18:52

Seen them advertised in Sainsburys for £4.99 I think.l

starlight1234 · 25/11/2013 18:58

LittleMissGreen · 25/11/2013 19:41

Sainsburys have one where you have to bake the gingerbread first. Don't know the cost though.

bigTillyMint · 25/11/2013 19:50

I have done the IKEA one a couple of times - it was eaten very quickly both times!

I didn't know Tesco's do them!
