Anyone doing anything? I'm doing the Christmas cakes. We don't put alcohol in so don't need to make in Sept. Fruit is all soaking will probably start stirring after a dash to shops for spices lunch.

I am! I've been soaking my fruit and I'm making my cake and some mincemeat (Nigella's festive) today.

3bunnies what do you soak your fruit in? I make an none alcoholic fruit cake and I soak it in a mixture of earl grey tea & feed it with orange juice

3bunnies · 24/11/2013 13:13

I just soak it in orange juice. The girls are doing all the hard work just making their wishes!

DH out mincemeat to soak last night.

Due to timing issues we did the actual stirring of the xmas pud yesterday, but it's steaming away now.

We use dh's grandma's recipe and everyone has a stir and makes a wish. It's about as close as we come to a Christmas tradition at the moment.

I made my cake and stuffing yesterday, soaked my fruit last night for pudding and mincemeat which I've done today. This year I soaked everything in cherry brandy, which smelt (and tasted) gorgeous! Everyone has a stir of the pudding and makes a wish, even though I get eye rolling they secretly love the tradition. Only thing is, I really can't be bothered to cook dinner now as I'm fed up of being in the kitchen! Grin

I forgot all about it & have only remembered thanks to this thread so will probably make the second cake with my girls later on if I can convince dd1 to get out of the bath that is

CrazyOldCatLady · 24/11/2013 14:56

I've had fruit soaking for a week now. DH has just taken the kids to his sister's for the afternoon and I'm going to make cakes.

While they're in the oven I'm going to stoke up Netflix and watch The Polar Express : )

mrspremise · 24/11/2013 15:11

The pudding is steaming gently in the slow cooker as I type. I'll take it out to cool when the dc go to bed and rewrap it to go in the cupboard when it's cooled down.

mrspremise · 24/11/2013 15:15

2tired and Ilike we do the everybody have a stir and make a wish thing too, the DC love it; DH is always a bit Hmm , but still gives it a desultory mix.

3bunnies · 24/11/2013 15:25

ds was a bit reluctant at first but then gave it a stir and screwed his eyes tight while wishing is a way that only a little child does. He looked so sweet.
