Egg Nog?

I've always wanted to make this, or indeed try it, but have never got around to it. It always looks so lovely in the recipe books but can anyone tell me how similar it is to advocaat? I don't like advocaat! Thanks.

It tastes eggy & rummy & usually quite of vanilla (I don't like vanilla).
My mother always made it at home & was frightfully easy.
Sorry I don't know what Advocaat is like.

My mother used to buy it in the states when I was little. It can't have had much alcohol in it.

I remember Christmas without egg-nog as being one of the greates disapointments when we moved to the UK.

Not much help, but I don't like advocaat either so I don't think it can have tasted much like that/

come to think of it, I think nutmeg is the dominant flavour. I like that which is why I will drink egg nog now.

Ooh, I've always wanted to try this. Didn't realise it had alcohol in though not that that matters Grin. I've seen it in Tesco in the American foods section for about £6 I think. I'm going to get some the next time I'm there :)

It can be non-alcoholic. Bit like vegetarian chilli. You just have a hunch something's missing when you eat it. My mom made hers with raw egg, too.

As children we would go over to my nains house for Xmas and she would mix us a shot of Advocaat with a glass of lemonade and it was a real treat! This was 'eggnog' to me but I don't think it is really? I didn't realise until years later that it was alcoholic! [Shock] we used to get a little bottle of babycham too! Ah the good old days! It doesn't taste the same anymore!

Is eggnog like a snowball? Or are they different?

Just as an aside, snowballs aren't big enough, there's like 2 mouthfuls in there. If anyone knows anyone at snowball HQ, they need to up their game!

Eggnog is a mixture of eggs, cream, sugar, booze (rum or bourbon) and nutmeg (and vanilla). There are various ways of making it, from a nutmeggy cold custard loosened to a drinking consistency with milk and whisked egg whites to a mixture of egg yolks, rum, sugar, spices and whipped cream.
