Nigella's Christmas Cake - tried & tested?

Has anyone made this (traditional cake in her Christmas book)?

We've guests this year & so pressure is on to provide festive loveliness in all forms - yet the quantity of booze has caused raised eyebrows amongst those consulted (DM).

400ml of brandy/bourbon (20cm square cake).

Sounds good to me, but will it pickle my guests? Is this a good thing? Is the finished cake worth the expensive ingredients??

Thanks MN.

I've made it this year so am not much use but instead of feeding it more brandy I'm feeding it cold tea as I saw this recommended somewhere
. Cake itself looks lovely and also not hard on the top thanks to her foil tipSmile

I swear by Delia's cake recipe which is made well in advance and fed weekly with whiskey/brandy. TBH the total amount used of booze could equal that of Nigella's. I'm sure it will be lovely. Not making one this year as we are off abroad and my sister is making it Smile

Thanks for responding.

I took a deep breath & went for it (against background noise of DM gasps) - there looks to be a lot of dried fruit as well as enough booze to scent the kitchen, but I'm happy with that!

We shall see. I'll check the foil-tip & consider cold tea to feed though am getting into the swing of things now I've inhaled a pint of brandy vapours

Next year hillbilly, I shall go away Grin
