Any similarly priced alternatives out there? (I know nothing about tablets)

It has to be suitable for use by one dp and a six yo dd but I am where to start

We got one for Dds birthday in waterstones. It is the same one we got other dd for her birthday in the summer but has come down in price quite a bit as they have released the newer one. Was £200 first time, £140 this time. Have you checked your nearest waterstones? It's been brilliant, we have had no problems whatsoever with it.

I didn't know waterstones sold kindles....I usually pick books up in The Works.

Will be off to have a play and mooch around in there on Monday when I pick up dd2's birthday present.

It would have been good if we shopped at Tesco, Rescue

You can put the kindle app on the nook hd. We've done it.

Get a nexus 7 £119 from car phone warehouse. Much better than the kindle fire.
