I boil/roast a large-ish ham joint and we have it with pineapple/egg and veg and either mash or chips. Then there's plenty left over for sliced ham on the table for Christmas tea and on boxing day, when I only want to have leftovers for tea. :)

Sausage rolls, crudités, dips, crisps, mince pies. Maybe some Christmas cake.

Party food buffet.

A couple of years we got a mix of Scandinavian and more Spanish types of buffet things, and had a sorta smorgasbord/tapas type of meal. Cooked meats, cured meats (Parma ham, salami, brasaeola), various cheeses, olives, hummus, squid rings with chilli and garlic, prawns with sweet chilli sauce for dipping, tomatoes, crispy lettuce, peppers, bread sticks and nice crusty bread.

I really like that.

Last year, we went back to one of the tried and tested - just cooked ham, just cooked spiced beef, potatoes and veggies. It's ok, but I prefer the lighter "picky" meal. The ham and beef is what we both got growing up as wel though.

This year is my first proper christmas eve as a lone parent.

I'm planning on doing a picnic whilst watching a christmas movie.

we always settle down to a christmas film with a take away usually Chinese.
