I like a relatively simple dinner table at Christmas. I haven't put my mind to this year's decorations but something with red flowers in individual vases is usually what I go for.

I have a special Christmas table cloth and napkins.

I'm also host dinner for first time.
Thinking something that doesn't take up to much room on the table. Grin

I was thinking of a hurricane vase with a candle and some holly & ivy around the base x

We have a gold organza runner across the table with a gold twiggy/berried garland on top, and battery white fairy lights entwined with the garland. Very simple, but effective with gold chargers, crackers, and the best white china and crystal glasses.

I normally make a small wreath that I lie down as a candle surround (I realise I may not have explained that as well as I could :o)
I like the idea of a hurricane lamp though, I already have one of those so would only need to blow the dog hair off :o
