I would like to get some picture books that I could read to 5yo DS for our 1st December hamper. I have The Night Before Christmas but I would like to get a couple more. Any suggestions please? They dont necessarily have to be classics, just a good read. Nothing with wee or poo though please Smile

I bought This for my 5 year old ds the other day. It's absolutely hilarious and I know he'll love it.

Probably not suitable if you're not into toilet humour though Blush

Lovely book and less trumptastic.

HappyAsEyeAm · 11/11/2013 21:20

It does indeed look lovely. I have just remembered that my parents have it, and DS reads it there, all year round!

Lucy and Tom's Christmas (Shirley Hughes)
Morris' Disappearing Bag (Rosemary Wells)
Mog's Christmas (Judith Kerr)
Stickman (Julia Donaldson)
The Snowman (Raymond Briggs)
Father Christmas (Raymond Briggs)
The Winter Bear (Ruth Craft)

All so lovely!

And no poo or wee in any of mine!

HappyAsEyeAm · 11/11/2013 21:55

Thanks so much. Lovely suggestions. The shirley hughes and ruth craft books are no longer being printed, so harder to come by. Is the raymond briggs father christmas book a bit young, do you think?

Jolly Postman's Christmas by the Ahlbergs?

WallyBantersJunkBox · 12/11/2013 09:24

I would second Stickman. It won't be long before they can read themselves so this book has some longevity.

How about the Grinch it's a Christmas modern classic www.amazon.co.uk/How-Grinch-Stole-Christmas-Seuss/dp/0007365543/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1384248094&sr=1-1&keywords=The+grinch+that

I absolutely love 'Melrose and Croc' by Emma Chichester Clark. It's a picture book about two lonely people finding each other to spend Christmas with. Gorgeous.

BankerMommy2010 · 12/11/2013 10:10

Not sure if you have a home bargains by you, but they do some lovely Christmas stories and they are cheap as chips x

SunshineAndPeardrops · 06/12/2013 09:41

Santa Claus Has a Busy Night. I used to love this as a little kid!

snowmanshoes · 06/12/2013 10:32

The snowman and the christmas fairies is a beautiful book. They have it on Amazon for a fiver and its a big hardback book and the pages are lovely. And yes it is a story with fairies but they are elf-like IYSWIM as they are dressed in red Santa outfits so not girly and the story is about the Snowman really. It really is nice.
