Fibre optic or plain mini tree?

Due to having a new kitchen and redecorating we won't be putting our tree up until possibly a week before Xmas, we don't have room in the living room for anything big but do normally have a small fibre Christmas tree but it got broken last year.
The main tree goes in the kitchen diner and so d o most decorations, this is the first year DS 'gets' it so want to make the living room all Christmassy. So do I get another fibre one? Or a mini one to decorate (talking 3-4 ft) and any other ideas for making most of a tiny space where decorations are concerned?

I had a fibre optic one when my DS was little until DD was about 3 yo.
It was quite sweet, and if it got knocked over (which with young children is quite likely) nothing to damage.
This was 13 years ago , I'm sure they are much , much better now too.
