Present for my dad

I am hoping that some wise people on here can help give me some inspiration for my Dad's Christmas present as I am stuck! He likes bird watching, walking in the great outdoors and steam trains as well as reading. The problem being that he has most things needed for his hobbies and doesn't really like getting vouchers for things!
Help I really want to get him something special for him but I am getting nowhere fast! Any help would be gratefully received. Grin

A nice warm jumper :)

Typical Dad problem!, We have had success with old fashioned long wool socks, a leather tray for coins or keys, books on trains sourced from 2nd hand book shops, Stilton in an earthenware pot with home made chutneys, RSPB membership, magazine subscription re one of his hobbies for a year, NT membership, steam train special journey ( not done this but friends have) or holiday. David Shepherd railway print, trip to railway museum at York, trip to WW1 battlefields (lots to see in 2014), collection of micro brewery beers, cashmere scarf, a day at the races with lunch. Hope you find something to suit.

That had crossed my mind (as well as thermal under garments) but even in the coldest of weather he only really wears a fleece and coat! Strange man doesn't seem to feel the cold! Thank you for the suggestion tho.

My dad is getting a slate cheeseboard (matalan have some heart shaped ones in the Christmas 3 for 2), a selection of naice cheese, maybe some oatcakes and a jar of homemade chutney. Would he appreciate something like that? I find things he can eat are appreciated more than 'stuff'

This is supposed to be great for keen birdwatchers - a sequel to 'The Running Sky'

Bit of a cross post there! Thank you I shall look into all the suggestions - I have started getting some of his favorite food and a few little comedy bits! Dad's always seem to be difficult!
