Kids tablets

I've been thinking of getting ds1 a tablet for playing games etc on. He's 3 but pretty handy with gadgets so don't want anything too young as want him to get a few years out of it. Saw the leap pad ultra today which was the kind of thing I had in mind but was also wondering whether he'd be too young for a ds?

Any experience or recommendations?

(And before any one says to buy him a bike/book/toys instead, he has or is getting lots of toys/activities, but we travel a lot and want something to keep him entertained in the car!)

Don't buy the Innotab. Got it for DD's 3rd birthday. Clunky and unintuitive IMO. You really have to drag things around on the touch screen. DD's has got a black line and a blotch across the screen - it's probably been dropped but I would expect a child's tablet to withstand that. She's not rough with her toys.
