Playmobil advice?

DS is 5 and other than a request for doggy do, I have no idea what to get so I am thinking of playmobil. Either the pirate ship or the falcon knights castle.

Firstly are these ok for a 5 year old? Secondly, any good deals you are aware of other than boots having them on 3:2? Is the pirate island any good?

Playmobil.is spot on for a five year old imo. They do some great sets, and even better, do Advent Calanders. They are quite large, and £14 in Asda, but behind every door is a character, object or animal that contributes to a big set.

We had the playmobil advent calendar last year but he has asked for Lego this year.

Do NOT get the damn castle [ shoots evil look at ruins of castle sat in the corner of the living room ] it falls apart if you so much as waft past it too vigourously. I'm told the lion knight castle is sturdier but more expensive. The pirate ship is good though. Ds plays with both the castle and the pirate ship together, but it always involves me putting the castle back together endlessly ( and he's not rough with it at all).

Thanks for the heads up. I will look at lion knight one too.

If you can get hold of the Ark, or any of the boats, they are very good value. Totally waterproof and good for the bath.

You can get a little motor for £5 to make them 'go', but they are great fun without. The sperm whale is cool too, it's about 45cm long, and its mouth opens. Also good for the bath.. sensing a theme here? Grin

I love the Pirate Ship, DS got it for Christmas last year when he was 4.7 and he has played with it a lot. Be aware it takes quite a bit of putting together, but it has brilliant play value as it has so much to it.

this set looks good, if you don't want to spend as much as a big castle or the pirate island would cost. We have a similar set from a few years ago and it's very good. We also have the pirate ship (not the current one, the one from a few years ago), and that is excellent too.

DziezkoDisco · 01/11/2013 18:42

mine love this castle and are pretty rough with it, we added lots over the years, knights etc from playmobil though.

olibeansmummy · 01/11/2013 18:43

If you can superglue it it'd be alright. We can't superglue ours yet are we hope to be emigrating in the new year...

We've got ds the submarine for Xmas, it looks fab and only £20 ( actually I got it for £13.33 when Amazon price matched argos' 3 for 2!). It comes with a motor too (Isildur reminded me of it).

imaginext castle and all the bits go with it? this is what my 5yr old ds has asked for this year. We've had imaginext before and its pretty robust.

We have the falcon knight castle and I echo the previous poster- it is a pain and falls apart all the time. Great idea to glue it though.

ilovevenice · 01/11/2013 18:57

eBay is your friend as far as Playmobil is concerned. Though we ended up with two pirate ships when my DH panicked and ordered a second one a week before Christmas. Luckily we had a 6 year old and a 4 year old and they got one each! Slightly different content but they didn't mind and they were massively cheaper...

hermioneweasley · 01/11/2013 18:59

Imaginext do very good sets for less money

Crutchlow35 · 01/11/2013 18:59

Thanks everyone and thank for the Argos links in particular!

We've got a castle and its pretty popular although it falls apart. I have 4 dc, 3 ds and ds3 is 5. All dc that come to the house gravitate to the castle, the 2 dragons and the 50 knights with horses. All from eBay. IME it's the people and animals they love the best. We have a rock castle. The thing with playmobil is that it lasts forever so you can buy the big things like castles second hand save a fortune. I did buy other stuff though from Elc though as they do very good deals before Christmas with free postage. Such as the camper van which is great! Always wanted a hospital tbh. That would be fun! Smile

Crutchlow35 · 02/11/2013 08:03

Thanks everyone. It would be rude not to get the half price castle on argos!
