Right so DF has a PS3 with 12gb hard drive (I believe that's the right terminology) and I'm too it needs increasing so can anyone help me with where I might get the right thing? What precisely I'm looking for? As you might be able to tell I'm completely clueless!!!

yes, its perfectly possible - you may lose what he has on the existing one but I believe there are instructions on you tube that explain how you can transfer the data. i just had to replace the one on my sons PS3 as it was corrupted so we couldn't transfer anything - he isn't that bothered though as he is enjoying playing the games from scratch again.

What you need is basically a laptop internal hard drive (2 and a half inch I think - the bigger 3 and a half are for PCs) of whatever size of memory you want to go for. there is a slot on the PS3 that you unscrew the cover off (ours it at the bottom right on the front) pull the old drive out and slot the new one in - youtube will give you the instructions on backing stuff up and transferring. because ours was corrupt, I had to download all the firmware from the sony site onto a memory stick and load it all back onto the PS3 - it sounds complex but was actually really straight forward.

As a tip, it may be cheaper to buy an external hard drive on a deal and break open the casing as it is exactly the same thing inside but for some reason when we did it it was £30 cheaper for an external drive than an internal Confused

you can buy them on-line - google for laptop SATA drive and it should come up. Ours was apparently "urgent" Hmm so I just nipped to PC world and bought one.

This is what you are looking for although obs you may be able to get cheaper.
