Which games console this Christmas...

... for 5 and 7 yo DSs. It's our first.

I like the sound of a wii or wii u but, frankly, don't have a clue.

The DSs like Lego, StarWars and I don't want any shooting.

DS2 has partial hearing.

What would you suggest?

My DS has just taken his GameCube to Uni with him. It has definitely stood the test of time.

There are some incredible games on it.

Argh, I was all set to buy a Wii U until seeing this thread, now I'm not so sure. DS is 5.

The new xbox is way over budget, but the 360 is cheaper than the Wii U - is it worth buying a 360 if there's a new one out? And do you need to buy any extra consoles etc for it? (Hope you don't mind the hijack OP).

All DSs friends have XBox 360s so they can play together. We have literally just hooked it up and he's chatting to a friend whilst they play FIFA together right now, he has a massive grin!

I guess the One will do extra stuff, but not really bothered about that for now. I doubt any of his friends will be getting the new one just yet. So for us the important thing is does it support the games they are into, or likely to be into, and do their friends have similar consoles so they can play together via XBox live?

I have a total ban on shooting games here, so it's Minecraft and FIFA mainly.

haven't seen the ps3 drop though yet.

I then went to CEX and got a kinect for £10 (the guys were really helpful and knowlagble and found me one that was still new in box upstairs rather then a shop floor one when I mentioned it was for an Xmas pressie!) and the kinect game was 75p !
