Christmas bargains on Christmas Eve.

I remember one year going to sainsburys with my sister on Christmas Eve for milk and bits and there were loads of the Christmas stuff very very cheap.

I've not set foot in a supermarket on Xmas Eve since as I usually work, but there is a nice big morrisons near my work so could call in on the way home, not to do my actual shopping but for bargain extras, does anyone else do this? Are there many reductions to be had? I love a good bargain

The reductions are huge but you might not get the cheese/pâté you want if you have preferences

My best friend goes every year on Christmas eve to get her turkey she says the reductions are great!!!

What time do you need to go (I'd imagine later on?)

I once went at 6.30am when my DD was a baby and my parents were looking after the DC
(DH went pootling off to the gym )

There were no marvellous bargains but it was quiet and the shop had full stock.

I went to m&s on Xmas eve eve, as I'd been laid up with flu, no bargains & ended up with a gigantic, expensive turkey crown as it was all that was left, I'm not brave enough to leave it

Let me just ask DH. He has been in Asda at closing time on Christmas Eve for the last five years buying my present. Hmm.

Oh what a great idea. Do people push and elbow in the restricted fridge space? It puts me off if people get like that for a bargain.

There's nothing like shopping on Christmas Eve when you don't need anything. It can be a lovely way to kick start the festivities, gingerbread latte in hand, festive music, soaking up that Christmas atmosphere, picking up Christmas bargains...

The stress of searching high and low for something essential that you can't find anywhere on the other hand...

Part of me fancies the festive music/gingerbread latte scenario. (I took the DC to the cinema last Christmas Eve as DH was working) . We got the bus so that I didn't have to spend an hour getting out of the car-park so I couldn't buy much.
But there's the "Hmmm, one cake left. Wonder why? One turkey left. Has it been squeezed, prodded, put in a trolley and wheeled round the shop then dumped in the cheese aisle when they change their mind and buy a duck?"

By the 24th everything that needs bought should be in hand - with the exception of milk, custard, last minute veg.
But you can add a few nice things if you must.

That's an idea though storm.

See I'd enter the store thinking it'd be a chilled out festive experience, within 2 minutes I'd be convinced I needed to buy 3090 crackers, 30 different kinds of cheese and a bazillion extra stocking fillers. Therefore I will not be venturing near a supermarket on Xmas eve!

there were huge discounts in Asda,last Christmas eve. mum and I went early for some bits and came out with half price turkey crowns!

In our Asda on Christmas Eve there is usually a fanboy announcement 'only 5 turkeys left' and then a huge fight between the 25 turkey shoppers. They do have whole Stilton wheels for about 5p though.

I'm definitely going to do it. There wont be anything we really need as we don't cook Christmas dinner here anyway so it will just be extras that we really don't need. I'm going to make sure I have space in the freezer.

I've never thought of it, but since I've planned to get up early on Boxing Day for the Next Sale this year, why not go the whole hog and go into Asda just down the road, on Xmas Eve!!

Not sure I would be bothered to go late in the day although I am sure there would be bargains.

Last Xmas eve I was outside Waitrose waiting for it to open at 8am with other dedicated shoppers. I had my main shop but this was just the last minute bits. Got talking to a woman who had already been to Asda at 4am. And she wasn't even cooking Xmas dinner!

I went into town with MIL as she had some shopping left to do (comes to us by train so didn't want to carry much) and we had a nice potter about and went for a nice lunch. Planning on repeating it this year.

Ah, no, what you do is stock up everything you need for Christmas in good time, avoid the shops like the plague, then go into M&S on sort of the 27th or the 28th and fill your freezer with cut price fancy seasonal food. DP and I were eating posh treats well into February last year, and I spent very little money on them.

I can't shop on xmas eve. Too much pressure to find last minute things and you end up buying rubbish. For good bargains, Go Groopie is a good place to look. Really cheap and loads of different gift ideas. Delivery isn't the speediest but worth it for the bargain factor.

I can't imagine wanting a Christmas 'bargain' - by it's nature something I didn't need enough to ensure I already had it - so much that I'd willingly give up an hour of Christmas eve in a crowded supermarket stocked with leftover tat. Sorry, sounds grim.
