I hang ds' from the coup board door handle, boring but practical, I'm sure someone will have a better idea though!

Tie them to the stair rods/banister going up the stairs.

Or if you have a big (and sturdy, well secured) shelf somewhere appropriate you could try and attach it to there.

Some ideas for you
rustic branch
on stairs
I quite like the idea of a length of wood with little pegs along it like this you could take down an existing picture and hang it from the nail
Or how about a little festive clothes line
This is genius I think, you could use one of those
pressure curtain rods accross your window space to do this

Stockings are hung at the bottom of the bed, not on the masterpiece Smile

TheYamiOfYawn · 25/10/2013 18:14

Mantelpiece, not masterpiece.

Temporary faux fireplace

I dare say you could use a roll-up vinyl chalkboard if you dont want to paint or stick on the walls!

Nix01 · 25/10/2013 18:21

We have a mantelpiece, but how do you hang the stockings? Is there a special hook thing that I don't know about?

ShatnersEmptyCatacomb · 25/10/2013 18:23

Slade hung them on the wall. That might have been to achieve a reasonable rhyme rather than for aesthetic purposes though.

DSJamesHathaway · 25/10/2013 18:39

Oooh I like the rustic branch idea. Thanks Ruby

Well of course stockings go on the end of the bed on Christmas eve Yami but before that they can hang nicely somewhere taunting DH Smile

Nix you can buy little heavy based decorations that sit on the mantlepiece with hook for stockings. They have to be taken down when filled though as they are too heavy. We don't hang ours on the bed as dc are light sleepers and santa would need to come in on a ceiling wire a la mission impossible to fill them Grin

MamaBear17 · 25/10/2013 19:48

We have a radiator cover. DDs hangs on their until Christmas eve when we take it up to her bedroom. We bought a little ceramic snowman ornament that it hangs from.

goonyagoodthing · 25/10/2013 22:21

Windowsill?

ZombieBelle · 26/10/2013 13:07

on the back of one of the dining room chairs, we put it next to the little table where santas drink and mince pie go so it looks like santa sat down for his snack

CrotchStitch · 26/10/2013 20:48

This year ours will hang up the stairs a la rubys photo though probably with considerably less style Ibwould like to hang them over the fireplace but ours houses a real life honest to goodness log burner so my chocolate coins would melt :(

ShoeWhore · 26/10/2013 20:52

Bedroom door handle or cupboard door handle or bannister all good options.

I sellotape ours to the fireplace Grin - I'm dead classy, me.

MmmmWhiteWine · 26/10/2013 21:01

Ours are hung at the bottom of the bed.

mathanxiety · 27/10/2013 01:21

I have a set of small red stockings and always hang them on the tree until the big night. Then I hang them from the top of a window using thumb tacks and red plaid ribbon, with the ribbon attached by press stud to the stockings. I don't put a lot into the little stockings however, mainly chocolate.
