Lego set for a 10yr old girl?

DD loves lego, she has a massive box of it but its all just assorted bits that have been collected over the years. She's never had an actual new set with a picture and all the bits and so I'm going to get her one for Christmas - thought I'd seize the day with it as I guess she won't be into it for much longer now.

I don't want to spend more than £20, and I don't want it to be that fucking vile 'girly' stuff with pink bricks, and I don't want a film/TV tie-in either. She likes animals so was thinking something pet related but the only things available seem to be lego 'friends' (ie pinkified).

Suggestions?

For example this is the kind of thing and size I'm after - but with normal lego people not ridiculous stereotyped female caricatures, and without the very obvious 'girlyness' of pink bits and hearts everywhere.

How about a Log Cabin? Just over budget at £21.

I like the 3 in 1 house sets for older girls (or boys, for that matter). I think they are good value compared to the heavily themed sets. They vary each year, but at the moment there is the summer house, tree house and log cabin. Bit more than 20 though

Oooooh I like the log cabin and the treehouse that came up as a suggestion on the page too.

Mortified I never thought of looking at compatible but non-lego-branded stuff, will have to investigate further as that looks promising, thank you Smile

those Creator sets (treehouse etc) are really excellent and do come up on Amazon under £20 from time to time.

apparently camelcamelcamel dot com is the website to use to watch Amazon prices (I can't figure out how to work it so lost interest)

Can't go much above £20 but I agree that those all look great and maybe I can find one second hand, DD isn't fussed by things being new so long as all the bits and the instructions are there she would be thrilled!

The new Lego architecture series is good. In budget would be the Seattle Space Needle or for £30 build the Sydney opera house

I am coveting the winter village stuff.....but over your (and my) price range. It's very lovely though, and I might want it more for me than for dd. Grin

My 9yo girl loved this lego technic plane. Lego technic is slightly more complicated than normal lego.
