Have got a DS who is a bit crazy about Lego. Have a got a variety of bricks and the green stuff, but one set which someone else got him, and he loved it.

What's the best (and not too expensive) Lego sets?

MNHQ Update
This is an old thread, but if you’ve landed here while on the lookout for similar recommendations, our guide to the best LEGO sets has been recently updated. Made up of recommendations from Mumsnet families, it includes a wide range of LEGO suitable for kids of all ages (and adults too!) from LEGO Friends to Harry Potter. We hope it’s helpful! Flowers

How old is DS?
Also you will find that no Lego is "cheap" though there are some offers about on the Christmas bargain thread which brings it down a bit. I was told that the generic Lego stuff will always work out cheaper than the themed packs eg. Harry Potter, Star Wars.
Also keep the instructions safe so you can flog it on eBay when they have grown out of it :o

Sadly, experience has taught me nothing will be cheap, with Lego Smile

More looking for stuff which won't cost us the house...I'll look at the Bargain threads, thanks.

Look in bargain thread for the Isme code which is 30 off 60 and all their Lego is on sale ATM.

Depends on the age of your DS too.. My ds2 is into the ninjago Lego sets but not much of the others.. Does he have a particular fave set or character ?
I've got some sets on offer from amazon recently ready for Christmas

Deathbyladybirds · 19/10/2013 12:51

Amazon sometimes have deals. Treehouse is £15 atm

This year I've got my DCs some boxes of roof tiles, doors and windows, and wheels. Should boost their normal bricks nicely :) particularly the wheels as they've only got 3 pairs and always seem to be fighting over them...

Also will probably get a tiny kit (like one vehicle) for their stockings

I've been sucked into the world of bargain lego sets this year, last year we got him the delux box which is about £27 at Argos or Amazon just lots of bits to make his own stuff... we've added a few bits at his birthday and for Xmas he's getting a few Star Wars sets, a Fire Engine and truck and a house from the creator series... its a slippery slope!!!

Sorry, went away...he's 5.
