ipad 1st generation

Can anyone advise on how dated an iPad 1st generation is?
We're on a budget this Xmas, and was wanting to buy a cheapish tablet for 7yo DD and 4yo DS to use, rather than shell out for something like a leap pad and all the expensive games.

Dd uses iPads in school sometimes, and I think she'd get a lot out of one at home, but don't want to spend more than £150.

No camera which would put me off.

Well there is now no further updates on them so yes, they're dated now however they will still perform what you want them to if you want one for a child

If you could stretch your budget by just £30 or £40 you cold pick up an iPad 2 second hand on a Fb site or ebay

Thanks will see if we can stretch to iPad 2

I have one and as soon as the new one is announced I'll be upgrading. It is very slow in comparison to DH's iPad 2 and crashes all the time. I find a lot of the kids games keep crashing which really frustrates my DC so I'd definitely opt for the 2

Why not get one of the tesco ipad thingys? Cheaper and same stuff

I've got an iPad 1 and iPad mini. The 1 is now boarder line obsolete, you can't update the software, the app updates no longer work either, and it crashes all the time.

Yep. Same here. Mine crashes, goes slowly and has no camera so you can't Skype/FaceTime which is really annoying (have family overseas)
