And will you be hosting?

Really just interested to know what other people do.

Me, DH and DS, my parents and possibly 2 or three friends. I'd love to have more but our cottage is really small and we simply don't have the room Hmm

nurseneedshelp · 13/10/2013 20:35

I'll be with:

13 registered nurses
5 health care assistants
10 Doctors
3 clerical staff

Yep I've got a shitty 12 hour shift in A&E.

The only time I hate my job.

Taffeta · 13/10/2013 20:41

Me DH DS DD DM DF

Same every other year. The other year Me DH DS DD FIL MIL BIL SIL.

I always host.

TigOldBitties · 13/10/2013 20:41

Salbertina, I think its fun, but I get for some people it would be total hell.

The 'kids' range from 22 to a few months so it's calmer than say a kids party of 20 kids.

Downstairs we have a basement which usually operates as a second lounge and playroom, so on the day we whack a few tables together and there will be 17 on each side. Then we all just pile into the lounge and what usually is the dining room, but is converted into a second lounge for the few days. The two rooms are split by double doors so at some points it can split into two groups. Kids usually end up piling off into bedrooms or playing all over the house. Having a spare fridge and freezer as well as a large tv and lots of chairs make it all much easier. Also we all help out so one of my sisters will be solely responsible for emptying and unpacking the dishwasher, one will be table clearer and filler. It's manic but so so fun.

Anja1Cam · 13/10/2013 20:49

Just us 4 and my PIL's (who are lovely I have to add). We're hosting as usual, they're here for the whole week. Dh'd birthday is on the 24th as well... I love cookingcooking etc and celebrations here are usually fairly relaxed and everyone lends a hand so I'm looking forward to it, even if I do keep fairly busy for the duration.

Editededition · 13/10/2013 20:51

Magic this year, as have everyone here Grin
...so with kids + partners + children, plus one SIL's parents ..... 15 plus 2 resident dogs and 2 visiting.

Very excited, as its a while since I have hosted when all DCs can be here!

lumpybumpylooloo · 13/10/2013 20:51

There will be 14 of us having Christmas dinner at our house...
Me, DH, DS1 and DS2
DM, DF, DB and DGran
DMIL, DFIL
DSIL, DBIL, DNiece and DNephew.
We will also have DH's grandparents calling in in the morning.... Hectic, but I love a busty house at Christmas!!

lumpybumpylooloo · 13/10/2013 20:52
  • Busy- not busty?!?!
Salbertina · 13/10/2013 20:54

Oh, Tig, sounds lovely! Wish my parents/siblings were less uptight like that! Had similar Xmases at ex-boyfriend's and was such fun!

elQuintoConyo · 13/10/2013 21:26

Juts three here: me, dh, ds.
I'm happy with that, no one else to pander to, as I've had to do in years past. I un-dormated myself and now have a lovely relaxing day to enjoy how we want: pjs till lunch, wrapping paper strewn everywhere til I don't know when, bit of a walk or some Christmas sex once ds is having his nap and an evening watching dvds or playing scrabble with Baileys and chocolate liquers!

LittleNoona · 13/10/2013 21:27

Just 7 of us this year - me, dp, dd, dm, db, dsil and dnephew.

I'm hosting.

No veggie to cater for this year.

feetlikeahobbit · 13/10/2013 21:30

About 50, but that's because I'm working a 12hr shift in a care home. DH not on leave from the army and DDs turn at her dads so might as well.

Saying that though Christmas day is a lovely day at work :) :)

Greydog · 13/10/2013 21:34

Me, husband and dog. And that's the way we like it. Sad, antisocial buggers!

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 13/10/2013 21:45

Bloody hell Tig. How big is the turkey??

BeaverAbroad · 13/10/2013 21:47

Me, DP, DD1, DS.

FIL, MIL, BIL, SIL, SIL2, SIL3, StepMIL (btw- MIL/StepMIL are good friends now).

Dnephew1, Dnephew2, Dnephew 3, Dniece1.

DSis, DSis, Dbro (those three are under 10). Dis3. DM. Step dad. Ex foster dad. Dbro2.

But we wake up and go round to the ILs house for lunch, with my parents/siblings coming to join the ILs at the same time. The on,y people staying with us are my three youngest siblings. And we leave the ILs/family behind at 4PM.

Iamsanta · 13/10/2013 21:50

Just us four and I love it like that! DC happy with their toys, no arguments and no pleasing others! Just PERFECT!

BeaverAbroad · 13/10/2013 21:50

Oh. And Dgran, Dgrandad, DGran2, Dgrandad2, great nan1, great nan3. Grandad1IL, Grandad2IL, Nan1IL, Nan2IL, ex foster mum, and my ex foster sister+her six children. 37 plus us.

neversleepagain · 13/10/2013 21:52

Me, DH and our twin girls who will be 15 months old. Really looking forward to it :)

EndoplasmicReticulum · 13/10/2013 21:58

Don't know yet, haven't had the discussion. Probably go round to my mum and dad's for Christmas lunch, we won't spend the whole day though (it's walkable).

In-laws are 100s of miles away and other family are there too, so they usually stay put.

filee777 · 13/10/2013 22:01

DH, the kids and me. Wouldnt want it any other way.

Ginformation · 13/10/2013 22:02

Dh, ds, me, 37 week bump, 2 cats, dm, df, mil, fil, possibly my grumpy as hell d grandpa, and hopefully my d friend if she gets out of work on time. We will be hosting, but I ain't doing none of the work Grin . I shall be too busy gestating and stuffing chocolate oranges into my gob.

EldonAve · 13/10/2013 22:04

7-9 I think. I'm not hosting

bigwellylittlewelly · 13/10/2013 22:10

I'll be hopefully spending it with my DH and two DDs (who will be 3.5 and 6m) and we'll slob at home. I think this'll be the year DD1 'gets' Christmas!

Jojay · 13/10/2013 22:11

Just DH, myself and our 4 kids.

But I'll have about 12 on Xmas Eve and another 12 on 27th, including my bot and his wife who are flying in from the USA.

We really love having Xnas Day all to ourselves. Our kids are all under 7 so it can be all about them. Last year we had burgers and chips, so catering was dead easy too, esp as I had epic cooking to do on the other days.

Can't wait for Xmas!

TigOldBitties · 13/10/2013 22:30

Thanks Salbertina, it is really crazy in a way but really fun.

Thankfully I'm only hosting the one event this year, although it would be me who gets the sit down meal. This year should be a doddle compared to last year where I did Christmas Day for my family, Boxing Day for DHs equally large family (had to be a party with buffet as there are too maybe of them) and a big New Year's Eve party.

Moose, I've ordered 2 9kg turkeys which apparently serve 18 each, 2 mushroom Wellingtons and a goose. In my head people will be sent home with leftovers, in reality it will probably look like a swarm of locusts has hit.
