Contemporary tree ( ok call it a lit twig ) ?

I was gutted the thread had gone as lit twigs are a matter close to my heart :o
I love the one you linked to but not sure I would fork out £60 for one. I can also see that you may get bored with the colour after a year or so.
I have (in times of financial need) abandoned the real tree (personally cannot bear artificial ones) in favour of a Christmas Twig, picked up from the forest, artfully plonked in some gravel and decorated with our normal stuff. In the New Year the Christmas Twig is taken back to the forest and released back into the wild :)
DS hates it and has never forgiven me for the day when his class (when he attended a well to do private school) was discussing their trees and decorations and he just sat there hoping desperately the teacher never got as far as him :o

TopBannana I'm umming about it. .. the other thing is that 4ft may not be enough but the larger ones are a lot more money.

In an ideal world I would like an iron tree like sculpture thing eg more permanent that I could twist lights around , move around the house. I know what i want but I just cant describe it or find it very well !

Bealola are you an arty type? Could you try this tree You could buy it of course or if your style was more contemporary use modern lampshades stacked, spray & wrap with lights

One of my friends had the larger version in her kitchen last Christmas, it looked fantastic. Am thinking of getting one this year.

Anyway, I have something similarish - but homemade.
Nice twiggy branches, put in a plant pot filled with a sand/plaster mix to stop them moving, all (including plant pot) sprayed gold.
It is about 3ft and sits on a side cabinet.
But no lights :(

It comes out on 1 December. We have a fabric advert calendar and each day has a small wooden tree ornament (and chocolates!) that goes on the twigs. The proper tree isn't put up until school finishes.

After Xmas it goes in the shed and when I gat it out I dust it down, and if it needs it give it another spray.

Bealola, I would urge you to look at the tree instore. My first impression of them was that they are not very stable and could easily be knocked over. My theory was proved when a lady was trying to examine one of the glass baubles on the larger one, the bauble came off in her hand and the tree crashed to the floor, lots of broken glass baubles! What is worse, it was on one of those display platforms and any passing toddler could have knocked it down.

I agree with your plan to tuck it into the corner, but would the 4' tree be easily seen?

Have you had a look at other internet providers of Christmas trees to see if they have anything similar/nicer/cheaper? Or garden centre websites, which might have some sort of decorative conservatory type tree that could be painted or slightly modified to what you want. I know you can get fake bay trees, for example, you could tread your own lights through. There are often cheaper ones with fake roses on for wedding decorating, rip off the roses and style them yourself. I'm sure The Range had some.

I've found a possible very much cheaper tree on Amazon.co.uk. Search in kitchen and home for Christmas trees, look for Prelit Glitter Paper Tree 7ft Christmas tree Xmas 120 LED lights 35.99. It's sold by Super.deals and is ex John Lewis stock.

Thinking of getting one for our living/dining area as we always put a real tree in the proper living room but spend most of our time in the other room where there is nothing! I saw one in Dobbies last week which I have my eye on but it is £80 so might get the amazon one instead.

TBH, at that price you could customise it if it isn't exactly to your liking. The lights are soft white which might not be bright enough, and you'd need to address the stability issue, but still a bargain I think.

What you need are some large birch branches/twigs and stick them in a glass urn draped artfully with lights. I still have my HM version (dates from xmas 2001) in my garage. I may have to drag it out, dust it down and put it in my hallway this year. It'll be 'retro.'

I did look again at the JL ones especially silver ones because the glitter mention nearly made me back off but for that price well here goes ....
Looked also at the cherry blossom flower type but decided that would look strange with baubles on .

Ahh, you didn't run it past DH first? You have to emphasise that the current JL ones are mega quids for the same size. And it will be a lovely feature for years to come, and not take up much floor space unlike a traditional Christmas tree.

I agree the description of the one on Amazon is a bit weird, but I think it has a more frostlike appearance in RL, if it's past years stock that I remember. Also I think they come apart in the middle, so may not be a massive box on delivery.

I'm airing the spare bed just in case!

Thank you - I also ordered one (even though we already have a main and a secondary tree). We aren't going to put up the main one until the breakable ornaments are safe from little hands for another few years, so this one will be decorated with felt ornaments. I'm planning breaking it in at halloween with some spiders & webs, and digging it out again at easter. At least, that's how I justified the purchase to my eye-rolling other half.

What a good idea, I used to do an Easter tree with twisted hazel branches in a vase and little coloured eggs and chickens hanging on it. I think your tree would become a useful focus for craft activities throughout the year, what about paper flowers in the summer, or a Happy Birthday banner for the DC birthdays?

my tree just arrived !

.. oh & meant to say its lovely. It does come in a very long box as tree is in one piece & screws into base. It is more frost like than glitter so HOORAY & it still has all the John Lewis notes etc it - do you think someone bought it didn't like it & sold on - cant see JL doing that ?

It is the dark brown like a real tree colour - it took 5 mins to assemble & 4 mins of that was taken up getting the tape off the box ! Looks great with no decs on & looks beautiful in said corner of dining room - I may even put presents underneath it!

anyhow re height - I was worried about the 210 cm etc quoted but risked it due to price and also as couple of reviews on JLewis moaned that it wasn't near 7ft. If I extend tape measure to top of tallest twi it is 200 cm - one happy lady - hope my DH loves it too ?

Now girly whirly how about a argain battery operated preferably pre-lit tree smallish for my DS bedroom .....
