Beware-toys r us deliveries

I had ordered a toy for dd2 (3) for Christmas a couple of weeks ago.

It arrived today. The delivery man banged on the door, window and clattered the letterbox and I opened the door and he handed me the toy just in its box NO OUTER PACKAGING!

I almost threw it back at him, shut the door and told dd who had run to the door to go to the kitchen for a minute. Luckily she didn't see it as if she had it would have ruined her Christmas present.

Just wanted to warn others that toys r us dont package things so dcs might see exactly what you have ordered.

Shock That is appalling! They should cover it in something! What if it rained?

I was so annoyed, we will be checking it all tonight as when I threw it back at him he put it down on the ground really hard while he waited for me to get dd out of the way so I want to make sure nothing is broken ( it was a dolls house). Dd was so close to seeing it.

But............... I complain all the time about excessive packaging, so think it is a really good thing that someone is not doing it.

Got a delivery from an online toy store - keen on it's green credentials - which had a SOFT toy.... in a bag..... in a box - with "noodle" packaging...... in a bigger box..... in a postage bag with our details on ..... NUTS!

I stopped using Toys R Us for delivery because they took almost three weeks to deliver something (whilst claiming it had already been delivered) and then when they did deliver it it had a big picture of the toy on the outside of the box. Totally useless for surprise presents.

Somanyexcuses · 09/10/2013 11:35

I'm all for less packaging but something would have been nice. Can't believe how close dd was to seeing her present. Just hoping now that its not broken inside the box but have to wait till dh is home before I can have a look.

Argos are also crap. Had loads of trouble with them last year. Angry

Smyths Toy Store have also just done this to me.
Silver cross dolls pram with a big picture on the front.
Thankfully the delivery lady was clued up enough to come to the door without it to check the coast was clear!

AMazon do this with some items - IIRC there is a warning that the item will arrive like this.

Personally, I think it is a good idea. Packaging should be reduced.

Somanyexcuses · 09/10/2013 11:51

If I'd had a warning at least i would have known, never had anything delivered unpackaged before so wasn't expecting it.

Also hate their stupid rule about limits on orders-no fun when you have more than 2 dcs to buy for but have to keep doing double orders and paying more delivery charges.
