Imaginext castle or playmobil castle?

ziggiestardust · 07/10/2013 17:49

This is for DS who will be 3.2 at Christmas

He is already getting the playmobil police and bank set, as well as some take n play trains.

The price difference once you've bought the various extras (dragons, cannons etc) is around £40; playmobil being the more expensive.

Help please!

Thanks Cake

He is already getting the playmobil police station, bank, car and helicopter anyway. He had a visit from the police at nursery a few weeks ago (not because he's a hooligan or anything, he's 3. It was just a show and tell thing), and he has a fascination with goodies and baddies now. Loves it.

I love the dragon that comes with the imaginext.

Have you looked at the Melissa and Doug wooden castle? Here. My neighbour has one and I'll probably get one for my dds when they're big enough. It's sturdy, looks nice and is sized to fit playmobil figures. It also comes fully assembled. It is on the biggish side, though.

ziggiestardust · 07/10/2013 20:46

Oh that is a sweet little castle!

We have the Melissa and Doug foldaway castle too, LOVE it! We have a right old ragtag army of medieval & playmobil knights, dragons & ELC bad guys, super hero's & lego minifigs that all come to play with the castle... happyland figures and my little pony's are our reserve army Grin, its nice and gender neutral which appeals to me also

We got the Imaginext castle last year and my DC have played with it loads. We got the dragon and some additional sets. The dragon interacts with the castle by infrared, so more sound effects. They love it so much, I even got the ogre shipped from USA for them, you can't buy it in the uk without spending a small fortune.

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 07/10/2013 21:03

the imaginext range of toys have been a huge hit in this house.
castle
space station
pirate ship
firestation

been thrown down the stairs parts gone out of the window.. and they have now been packaged up and passed on to other children looking almost new.

they are certainly sturdy.

ziggiestardust · 07/10/2013 22:27

kiwi Grin I love the sound of your children's ragtag army!

LetoAcupuncture - does the ogre interact with the regular castle as well as the eagle talon one then?

LegoAcupuncture · 07/10/2013 23:07

No he doesn't but he stamps on the people who hide in his foot.

DTisMYdoctor · 07/10/2013 23:12

Thanks.

The last few comments are probably the most bizarre on any thread this year Grin

Well, for now, the Imaginext castle is the winner. For now...

Unfortunately, I live nowhere near a toys r us, so I'll have to get a family member to pick it up for me. Sigh.

The Imagenext sounds are no way as irritating as baby toys..DS and his Dad love playing battles with the Dragon and battering rams...they use foil covered ping pong balls as extra ammo

I am currently going the exact same dilemma for a birthday next month. Does anyone have any advice on castles?

Or an update from the OP about the Imaginext one ?

Partybugs · 31/08/2015 21:06

I was thinking the exact same thing! Thank you for resurrecting this thread. Anyone?

Finlaggan · 31/08/2015 21:53

Oh no I've bought the playmobil lion castle from playmobil damaged box sale (so was £60) for DS Xmas, he will only be 3.3. The reviews on Amazon looked ok and DD is playmobil crazy so we have a lot of sets already so I thought it would be great for them. Oh well I can always sell it and buy the imaginext one for half the price...sigh...

KinkyDorito · 31/08/2015 21:58

Had both for DS at 3 .

Imaginext all the way. Far more robust for little ones.

KinkyDorito · 31/08/2015 22:00

Fin It will be fab, especially if your DD has figures. I would just remove the little bits as they get lost easily. Stick to the men and the castle itself.

MidnightDinosaur · 31/08/2015 23:14

We hate playmobil in this house and couldnt find anywhere that seeks the imaginext here to have a look at it so we went for this Le Toy Van wooden Camelot castle with Papo figures (the ice dragon is so cool) last year.

My dc are 6 & nearly 5 now and still play with it almost everyday.

5madthings · 31/08/2015 23:19

I commented on this thread, we still have the imagine castle and it's still played with regularly. Ds4 is now 7 and dd is 4. My older boys play with it as well.

Imagine toys are great, we have the boat, submarine, helicopter, batcave and prison and the castle and some space bits. All are incredibly hard wearing and have given great play value.

TeamBacon · 31/08/2015 23:20

Get a second hand playmobil one. They're a lot better than the current one, and they don't fall apart. I'd offer to sell you ours, but my 8yo still plays with it :) (he got it for his 4th birthday)

Will try and find the one I mean

I know this is a bit of a Zombie thread but for completeness I though I'd note that the playmobil castle has been a massive hit with DS 3 & DD who is 6. They've been playing with it non stop since Christmas Day & it hasn't fallen apart yet.
We got the lions castle, it is massive and has loads of features (trap doors, secret compartments etc). We got and extra canon and dragons etc and they're both loving it.

Thanks for the advice.

Partybugs · 27/12/2015 20:52

We got ds 4/5 the playmobil wolfs knight castle when it price dropped to £45. Big hit with him and his older sisters. We got the troll/ogre set too, and a dragon.
