Going Away Over Xmas - Where To Go?

Thinking of going away over Christmas, somewhere really Christmasey!
Have a three year old (just turning three by Xmas).

Any ideas other than Lapland, which I think we will save for next year when DS will be a better age for it. I think just now it may be wasted on him, though not ruling it out. Not wasted, just better for him next year when he is that little bit older.

Aviemore is popular at Christmas. They have a Christmas eve parade in the town with real reindeer and FC in a sleigh. Plus there's a fair chance of snow.

We are going to Scotland for Xmas, staying in a lovely lodge in a forest near Banchory.

There are loads of hotels, lodges and holiday homes in and around Aveimore. The macdonald resort is lovely and usually offers a Christmas package.

Husband is keen on Aviemore, looking promising. Would prefer a lodge, self-catering, to a hotel. Any more advice?

The Great North lodges are nice www.greatnorthlodges.co.uk. How many people are going? I've stayed in a couple of these houses - www.cairndruie.co.uk/index.htm- they are for bigger parties but lovely.

Found the GNLs already, the one the right size for our family is booked already, and the others are so big they are for more families to split the cost, and therefore prohibitively expensive. Again for Cairndruie, too big for us. But thank you!

The Aultmore Cottages have been recommended on mn. The estate is apparently owned by Bob Dylan. Really reasonable prices and they put a tree up and decorate it for Christmas. We were thinking of going this year, so I asked about a tree, but I think we're going to MIL's instead because it's free.

You can hire a lodge via the Hilton hotel group, they have lodges within their grounds which means that you are away from the hotel but can still eat in the hotel if you like and use the swimming pool etc. I also think that the McDonald resort also offer lodge accommodation give them a shout direct.

hope, have now found the Hilton lodges, thanks, but goodness me, they are £££££, so I think that's a no!

But think we have found somewhere else, states only sleeps two, so awaiting a reply re if they will let us stay with our toddler.
