How early is too early to make it? I was going to buy the ingredients today and make it next week, but is that too early? It's the first time I've made one! Grin

I was going to make them the beginning of October. I think with Christmas cake its the earlier the better, then u have time to feed it with the alcohol.

It's not too early. Enjoy the process, the baking smells filling the house with an early touch of Christmas....lovely.

Yes if it's a proper solid dark cake with loads of alcohol fed into it, then you can do it now and it'll get better with age.
Just make sure you wrap it well when it's completely cold.

You can put the fruit into alcohol to soak a few days beforehand too.

I do a Maderia Cake with sultanas and cherries with nuts (and Amarretto) so that gets done a few days before.
