Nice scented candles?

Myself and my dm love love love scented candles around the house. I bought her four Yankee candles for Christmas last year and they were all burned my the end of January.

So obviously candles will be part of her presents for this year but can you advise me on any other brands that are also nice (not headache inducing).

I don't mind spending up to €30 per candle. I was thinking of some anthropology ones as a possibility. They don't necessarily need to be Christmas scents either. Last year we love sparkling lemon, sparkling cinnamon and oranges and cranberries from Yankee candles.

I personally love Winter candles from the White Company and have them every year. Smell is gorgeous.

Other candles I like are pomegranate noir from Jo malone - think the small one just over yr budget but they are lovely.

Don't crabtree and Evelyn do nice ones? I've had a look at the new Yankee gift boxes too and they are gorgeous!

We love the woodwick ones. They have a wood wick obviously and crackle like a fire when they burn. I get mil one every year :) they are about £25 but last really well

She also lives jo Malone perfume so I think she would also love the candles.

I dont think any compare to yankee... I have white gardinia all year in my lounge and cranberry & Mandarin in my kitchen love them, I buy festive scented yankees in november, last year we had Christmas eve and some of the spice ones.

Shabbychic....those woodwick candles look fab. Think I shall order a couple for some birthdays coming up. Does the crackle last the whole time it is burning or just when it is lit?

Hi, yeah they crackle all the time its burning, its lovely on a winters evening. Although it totally confused my dad when my mum lit hers. He was wandering round going 'whats that bloody noise?!' Bless him.

Any recommendations on particular christmas Woodwick candles? Only heard of them from this thread.

Some good offers for Yankee candles on yankee direct at the moment. All sized jars.

I like woodwick but I adore my Christmas pudding lilyflame candle, lit it loads last year and it's still half full. I bought Xmas Yankees in the sale so I'll have those this year too

I love my oil lamp as an alternative too.

I think thr woodwick my mum has is called 'fireside' or something along those lines. Its red. She has also had one called cranberry something and liked that. We generally go for berry or woody smells, as that is what 'xmas' smells like to me :)

She has had a yankee in 'cupcake' before and that was gorgeous, but she found she could only burn it for a short time as it was such a strong smell. Yummy though!

For those on a budget and near a branch of Home Sense, I sniffed lots of Christmassy candles the other day. Lots of orange/cinnamon/clove and spiced apple scents.

Lily flame candles are lovely, you can get them on Amazon. I use them and Yankee.

Highly recommend isle of skye candles. Dd1 has them on her Christmas and birthday lists every year. They smell divine, not sickly and are not hugely expensive.

Lily Flame Ho Ho Ho is amazing. I get them every year and have to stop myself lighting them too early and peaking on Christmas spirit too soon!

Partylite. You need to go to the website and find your nearest agent. They are divine, Priced around the same as Yankee but higher quality and last a little longer ime. They also do ones with a wooden wick that crackle as they burn (I haven't had them)

The accessories are stunning as well - they look pricey in th catalogue but you have to see them in person and lit to see how lovely they are. They also do special offers every month.

I mentioned this on another thread yesterday, but I've recently been introduced to Village Candles. They're very similar to Yankee, in fact they're Yankees closest competitor. They're very nice, I got the chocolate brownie scent and it's gorgeous.

However, in my very humble opinion, they're just not quite as good as Yankee, but an interesting alternative and slightly cheaper.

I had a quick sniff of the new season candles in Clintons today.

There was a pink shortcake one that was nice but I don't consider pink to be a Christmas colour.

I am not a Yankee fan ( I have tried... and think I will have to retry as everyone loves them).

I have been bought a Marmalade candle recently and love it.

Been hit and miss with Wax Lyrical. Some have been gorgeous and others so-so.
