It's going to be my baby's first Christmas (he'll be 9 months old) and oh wow I just cannot wait!!!!!

Any ideas on nice momentos? Or sentimental presents I can get for him? I don't want a load of naff tat of any old thing with "First Christmas" printed on it though.

I'm thinking of maybe a beautiful embroidered stocking, or things like that. Any ideas please?

My gran knitted my sister and me stockings with our names on them. She's also knitting one for my son (due in November) because they're so sentimental and even now I hang my stocking up in my flat. I think a stocking is a great idea.

What I'm doing for mine is buying him a premium bond. So are some of my family - he won't remember this Christmas coming so we figured that we could start up some savings for him :)

Buy one christmas tree decoration for you son every year.
Put it on a box, and as he grows up, he will have his own childhood christmas tree decorations and remember :)
Once he is older, let him chose.
In my house, we have a special day together in which we go for a slice of chocolate cake and buy a decoration for 'my tree when I grow up'.

Yes. That. My parents did that too and I love my tree!

Tree ornament with room for photo (can do one every year)

Beautiful copy of The Night Before Christmas with a message written that it is for his first Christmas :)

His handprint on a pottery item (bauble/cup) and the year painted on

Handmade stocking - more meaningful if you make it - it can just be simple with some ric-race and bells for decoration - there are great free tutorials online and modern Christmas fabrics - check out Fabric Rehab online, or the designer Riley Blake has done some lovely Christmas fabrics

Special Christmas bear that only comes out at Christmas

A really lovely snowglobe - preferably musical (children love these)

We buy a Swarovski crystal snowflake every year, since the year we were married.

They seem to hold their value so in years to come they will be something to pass on to DS, either for him to keep or sell if he chooses.

They have a silver date tag on them so it might be nice to get this year for your DS as it will be his birth year, even if you don't want to buy one every year.

Head to a ceramics cafe and make some lovely baubles and mugs and decorations with hand and foot prints on. You and the grandparents can coo over them for years to come.
