turkey crown - will it be big enough?

Help - I have bought a turkey crown described as 'extra large' which I thought would be fine to feed 8 people. However, the weight is only 2.7 kg which, having looked at info published in other shops (I got mine from Aldi) it seems that 2.7 kg will only feed 6-7 people. Do you think it will be big enough with sausages, stuffing etc, or do I need to get an additional small crown or some gammon to be on the safe side? Thanks

I'm sure it will be enough unless you are feeding massive appetites. I think the feed number doesn't consider accompaniments such as sausages. I always buy slightly smaller than the feed number because we have small appetites and there's loads of other food not forgetting pudding of course. I'd only buy bigger if I was relying on plenty for next day leftovers.

tbh i would get another. not a meat eater but depends on how much they consider a one person portion, AND the appetites of those you are feeding. also, don't you need some for sarnies!?

I've got a 3.15kg crown for 8 people (3 of them are small children) but am expecting leftovers for Boxing Day. All quite small appetites though.

We've got 4kg boneless crown for 9 adults and 3 children, and I'm expecting there to be enough for rolls in the evening.

It's meant to be half a pound of meat a head, so for 8 people, 4 pounds or about 2kg. You should be fine. (I'm assuming it's boneless, so weight is solid meat?)

With all the Christmas extras you'll be absolutely fine. Don't stress Smile

One shop (m&s...maybe) is publishing servings per person as a serving for Christmas Day plus leftovers for Boxing Day. So technically double what you would need.
You'll be fine, nobody will go hungry!!

littlemissmulledwine · 23/12/2012 11:22

it will be plenty! i cooked a 2.5 kilo crown last week and had 14 deep filled turkey baguettes and a roast for 2 out of it.

said it serves 5-7 but no way would 5 people eat 500g of turkey each

I've ordered 6kg crown turkey for 12 people also having pork and trimmings wandered if too big? But will also want some for Boxing Day .

You'd never have that amount of meat fro an ordinary chicken dinner. So you have more than enough.

I always have way too much. 3 slices of meat each - when you then pile everything else on - is way more than enough.

Yea thanks, but will also need for a curry and sandwiches, so yea should be
