I am! DS has gone to his Nanny's, DP is staying out of the way...I'm gonna have to blitz this house today. Not looking forward to it, but it has to be done!

Wondering if anyone else is the same as me today!?

happybubblebrain · 22/12/2012 12:34

I've just had one. Dd is ill in bed with a bug so I've taken the opportunity to clean the whole house from top to bottom this morning. It feels good now that it's done.

ILoveOnionRings · 22/12/2012 12:52

Started yesterday too and carrying on today. Not sure when to put the clean sheets on Sunday or the usual Christmas Eve but I don't want to have laundry hanging around drying on Christmas Eve - oh the indecision!!

JakeBullet · 22/12/2012 12:57

Am mid clean and having an MN break Grin .

MoreBeta · 22/12/2012 13:14

bisjo - it is a Bissell. I got it from Lakeland but they dont do the Bissell model I have now. They do always have various steam cleaners in stock though.

Something like this one is pretty close to what I have and I see it is on reduced at £79.99 too.

clam · 22/12/2012 13:16

Sorry OP, this is probably the wrong thread, but why is your dp "staying out of the way?" Why isn't he rolling up his sleeves and doing his half? Xmas Hmm

NoSoggyBottoms · 22/12/2012 14:58

Another MN break Xmas Grin

clam Many a 'heated debate' has been had about this over many years! His attitude is that the place looks fine as it is...I disagree. To be prefectly honest, when he has cleaned, I've only had to go back over it again anyway! He does help by taking bin bags out for me. He's also helping out with the food shop. Might not sound like a lot, but it's the one thing I hate doing. Oh, and he says that I get all stressed when I clean Xmas Hmm...I don't actually.

I'm doing well with the big clean, although you wouldn't think it if you saw everything around me at the moment!

Still got some things to do in town and have been given a short shopping list from MIL (including 6 pints of milk - realised that I don't know where in the fridge that will go! Could I put it in a cold room and squeeze it in the fridge before she comes round to get it? Xmas Grin)

Keep going everyone! And well done to those more organised who have already done!

Right I bought a really tall side board thingy from the second hand furniture shop (got a bargain managed £10 off and free delivery) its bigger then I remembered which is good but now home smells a bit musty funny like. Do I A clean it and take the paper liners out or B take liners out and air it for a hour before cleaning or C just chuck the toys straight in)

BendyBobsBrusselsSprouts · 22/12/2012 15:13

Yes! So what am I doing on here??!Blush

Kirstoll · 22/12/2012 15:29

I wouldn't just chuck the toys in because then they'll smell musty too and need cleaning... probably couldn't be bothered to clean it either though!

Asinine · 22/12/2012 15:35

I got the dcs to tidy and hoover, they are more thorough than me. I'm doing tons of washing, so I can stop for a few days over Christmas. I did the food shop and dh out doing whatever men do at the last minute Grin

InNeedOfBrandyButter · 22/12/2012 15:36

I was thinking just to chuck a few scented cushions in kirstoll Blush

NoSoggyBottoms · 22/12/2012 15:36

BrandyButter - I'd go for option B if you can or be arsed too! I agree that the toys will smell musty if you don't do something.

Off into town to sort out last few bits. It's neverending!

I'm off to scrub do I have to keep the paper draw line things? What are they there for in the first place? Ikea and argos doesn't have this

AppleOgies · 22/12/2012 16:07

I've spent most of this afternoon doing upstairs. It's downstairs tomorrow. :(

YulePutTatOnMyChristmasTree · 22/12/2012 16:22

I have vacuumed downstairs. I was going to wash my carpet but can't be bothered will do it tomorrow. I have an 8week old puppy who is following me around weeing Grin I'm not too fussed this year as no one is coming so I can slob in my comfortable chaos!
However I do have a lot of clutter since I am clearing my dads house (he died in November) and most of the contents seem to be in my lounge! Hopefully I will have a really good clear out once dads house is all sorted and sold and I don't have to keep trekking all the way over there.

Wish I'd asked for a steam mop for Christmas now
Happy Christmas

Kirstoll · 22/12/2012 20:32

Ahhhhhh am finished!! Floors swept mopped and hoovered respectively. Sideboards antibacteria'd rooms tidied, bathroom scrubbed, kitchen scrubbed, OVEN scrubbed, windows washed, mirrors wiped, beds changed, washing's drying, washing ups done. Am having a glass bottle of wine an curry is ORDERED . Feel like asda-mum

jazzcat28 · 22/12/2012 20:46

DH and I have done our blitz today... I did reach breaking point at about 3pm when I collapsed on the bed and couldn't move so DH offered (without me asking telling him) to scrub kitchen floor and Hoover the entire house!

He's actually done such a superb job I might have to let him do it again in the future on a much more regular basis

InNeedOfBrandyButter · 22/12/2012 20:52

Well I dettoled and scrubbed sideboard/draw thingy but I just shouted told the dc to get into bed and I can smell it from the door. What can I do?

Kirstoll · 22/12/2012 20:55

Don't stand so close to the door :)

KeepCalmAndHaveAnotherMincePie · 22/12/2012 21:42

It wasn't quite a blitz, but upstairs done today. Despite best efforts to declutter and sort storage in the last month, I still had to shove random things in cupboards! Downstairs tomorrow, then a chore free Christmas Eve for once!

Though have just realised I still have some wrapping to do...

Kirstoll · 22/12/2012 21:48

Oh bloody he'll, knew i'dforgotten to do something...... considers not wrapping presents

MoreBeta · 22/12/2012 21:52

All done but unfortunately I got a bit overzealous and had a bit of accident in stripping some paint of the cooker cover with the oven cleaner. Sad

midnightinmoscow · 23/12/2012 08:07

I'm doing mine today. DH taking the DC's to soft play this morning.

I refused to do it yesterday as it was my birthday!

Quick blitz round, change the beds etc and then just a nice Xmas eve pottering.
