StrawberriesTasteLikeLipsDo · 19/12/2012 19:20

Did my non perishables last week, slightly fresh but not too perishable yesterday (being very careful of dates) then DP is getting last bits xmas eve.

Id normally not be so organised but ELCS is occurring 21/12

wearymum200 · 19/12/2012 19:34

Ocado delivering Fri night ,but meat is already in the freezer for xmas day and boxing day just in case of non supply (everything else I can improvise or pick up on xmas eve

AnonymousBird · 19/12/2012 19:37

Mine comes TOMORROW!!!! Though I have meat and fish to collect Sunday afternoon, so will grab fresh bread etc and everything else I have forgotten then.

I did leave it all to the last minute though. Woke up early this morning in a panic that I had no idea just how or when I was going to do "the big shop" with kids in tow... luckily Tesco had two slots for tomorrow so I snaffled one.... I really don't want to shop more than bare minimum at the weekend, so quite relieved I can get 90% of it in the house tomorrow.

SanityClause · 19/12/2012 19:39

Ocado on Sunday. I always have the delivery on the 23rd, in case I forget something, or something is missing, and so I can go out early on the 24 th to get it.

SnowProbs · 19/12/2012 19:40

Ocado coming Sat night, will get last minute fresh stuff Xmas Eve

Benaberry · 19/12/2012 19:52

Going out Friday morning to get the last bits and bobs. Meat bring picked up from the farm butchers on Sunday, and veg, milk and bread being delivered Monday. Just hope everything is there, as after Friday I really don't want to be going near a shop

I remember the first year I did Christmas rather than going to family - I didn't realise what the shops would be like (was only 20), and so went to Waitrose after I finished work at 4pm on Christmas eve...and then subsequently onto Tesco when I found the shelves were empty. Tesco was equally stripped bare, and at that point, I cried Sad

Never, ever again!

makinglemonade · 19/12/2012 20:20

I got mine today. I have all the meat in the freezer for Xmas & Boxing Day. Milkman coming on Monday and DH will pick up fresh veg & bread from the market on Saturday.

I'm working every day now until Xmas day so really want to be organised.

This is only my second time hosting Christmas so I'm a bit worried I've forgotten something!

thewashfairy · 19/12/2012 20:25

I'm in the shop 4am Monday morning. Just do hope I have read the opening times ok. Have done it for years. Stocking up the shelves is between 10pm and 4 am so everything I need should be available.
By the time I'm done,I will be heading for the tills by 6am which is when I usually start noticing the carpark is filling up.
Home, unpacking whilst humming along with the Christmas tunes, all done and dusted by 9am.
Only once in my life have I been caught out shopping wif da crowds!! NEVER again, that was such a scary experience. Xmas Shock Xmas Shock

MrsPresley · 19/12/2012 20:35

I did my shop today so everything is either in the fridge or freezer and DS (19) has been well warned that if he dares to eat anything from it HE WILL DIE!!!! slowly and very painfully

I'm doing a buffet on Christmas day and the whole family go to the local carvery on Boxing day.

On Christmas eve I will get some more milk but I also have a few cartons of long life just in case.

CremeEggThief · 19/12/2012 20:39

I did mine yesterday. Just need to get my veg, bread and milk.

GrimmaTheNome · 19/12/2012 20:44

Friday, I think - maybe I'll take DD to her bus at 7:30 and go straight on from there. I've already got the M&S turkey breast in the freezer (just the 3 of us so whole bird would be ridiculous)

Bluestocking · 19/12/2012 20:46

I'm not doing one. The shops are only shut for two days. What's the big panic?

Violet77 · 19/12/2012 20:49

Just did mine:-) all of the usual food x 2 weeks plus extra wine and the snak goodies. Went after dc's in bed.

I will need to pop into the village for a few bits and fresh veg. It will be much easier than trying to do it all together.

BikeRunSki · 19/12/2012 21:00

bluestocking the big deal is that DH and DS will be at home during the day for two weeks, and they get through a lot of food, and my mum is visiting from 300 miles away and I don't want to spend that time shopping.

crikeybadger · 19/12/2012 21:02

4am seriously thewashfairy?

No shops around here are ever open that early.

Bluestocking · 19/12/2012 21:03

Fair enough. I am just a bit mystified by the Big Shop conspiracy.

marriedandwreathedinholly · 19/12/2012 21:06

Have lots of non perishable stuff that will last already and have stocked up on cereal, tins, tea, coffee, toiletries and cleaning stuff already, incl tin foil and clingy. The pigs, stuffing, etc., are already in the freezer, the mince pies, stollen, cake, pud, etc., are all stashed. As are the chocs, etc.. Will buy some sherry at the weekend.

On Monday at about 7 I will be in Sainos for the veg, the cream, the last minute bits, etc.. Can't be arsed to load a trolly and struggle to push it any more.

Have 9 on Xmas Day and 8 on Boxing Day so trying to be measured about it all.

thewashfairy · 19/12/2012 21:08

Yup,we have a great big 24/7 Tesco here which I will reluctantly abuse Grin
Must stress,I am a morning person so only have to set my alarm a couple of hours earlier than usual.
Might grab a little 'after lunch power nap' to get me through the day though.
As it happens we have a fancy dress party the evening before,so might even go straight on (after changing into civvies though Grin.
I don't drink anyway so while I'm up........

SantaWearsGreen · 20/12/2012 01:22

Coming Friday morning.

Imabadmum · 20/12/2012 01:32

Between 4 and 5 am Saturday morning usually. It's heaven, supermarket is almost deserted, most of the shelves are restocked, and there are staff hanging about waiting for their shift to end at 6am, usually a bit bored and willing to help you find stuff. Have also done it online before which is great but difficult to get a delivery slot and I missed them this year, so will be shopping in the wee small hours!

I'm not cooking Chritsmas dinner this year - but I usually do for about 12 people, so am feeling frivolously disorganised with no veg, bread sauce, stuffing or cranberry sauce to worry about.

Picking up gammon and sausagemeat from butchers on Saturday. that's all.

gregssausageroll · 20/12/2012 07:54

Delivery on Sunday evening. Need to finish it tonight. Also have marks and spencer to do on sat morning but that is first thing so hopefully not bad.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 20/12/2012 10:51

I got the last of it yesterday and don't plan on going near a shop till january.

Taffeta · 20/12/2012 11:22

Waitrose delivery Sat am as we have a big party that day.

I did buy some stuff a few weeks ago ( sourdough, topside, salmon etc ) and have frozen it as well.

Anja1LikesChristmas · 20/12/2012 12:27

Veg box arrives today. No 'big' shop needed - I am sometimes amazed at other people's trolleys - but then we'll be only be 6 not 16! I've been picking up stuff as I went along, all the meat is already on the freezer. Normal weekly shop tonight and a quick last dash early on Sat (as soon as I can get out of the house, before 7 usually) for milk, cream and anything I forgot. Family arrive Sat pm for a week and I do not intend to waste item with shopping while they're here!

BornToFolk · 20/12/2012 12:30

It's due for delivery between 1-3pm on Sun which should give me time to get anything they don't have on Sun pm, or Christmas Eve, though I really hope I don't have to.
