Lego for 6yo girl

Dd used to like lego building blocks when she was younger. There seems to be a lot out there for a wide age range for boys but not sure about the girls. Probably shouldn't differentiate too much but don't think dd will be keen on the obvious boys toys.

Any recommendations?

We have a little toy shop near us that has a whole room dedicated to Lego, always has lots in stock but sadly the prices are very high (so i buy on amazon unless its a set i cant get). Argos do a lot more now but most of its online only and for home delivery.

exexpat, tried to get her that starter kit before christmas but were all sold out! toys r us have the 4630 starter kit www.toysrus.co.uk/Toys-R-Us/Toys/Construction/Lego-Build-and-Play-Box-4630(0096411)?searchPosition=2
It has 1000 pieces which is about 300 more than the deluxe box you recommended but from the models on the box it looks like it may be aimed at younger children.
Is it all much of a muchness or should I hold off buying until the deluxe is available again>

That's the one my very generous friend gave my DCs on Xmas eve :) it's brilliant! He also got them a green and a blue baseplate, and a little set each - this for DD and this for DS. They are 5 and 3 so needed help building those sets, but that was hardly a problem since DH and I didn't have Lego of our own as kids, so it was great fun! After making those we just improvised.

They were absolutely over the moon when they opened it and we barely heard a peep out of them for the rest of the evening!

They are not ready for the Lego Ideas book yet (shame as it's amazing) - that might appear next Xmas though :o

It's DH's birthday next month so I think I'll let the DCs choose some of the LOTR Lego as a present.

DD (8) is coveting the space stuff and the Atlantis stuff. She keeps 'borrowing' the catalogues from DS1 and hiding them in her room.

There was very little lego that appealed to my Dd 15 when she was younger. All their marketing was done with boys and its only recently they started bringing out houses, villages etc again etc Dd would have loved some sort of animal range.
She did love the Harry Potter range. I got her the Hogwarts train off ebay for christmas. She loved it and had it done by lunch time, once we found the correct instructions on the internet, didnt realise there had been 4 different versions.
