coffee makers?

DH has declared that he would really like a coffee machine for Christmas. I don't like or drink coffee, know nothing about it. I know he has lattes if he's out, uses the cafetiere at home. Any suggestions of what I could get him?? Thank you in advance!

Iv got a dolce gusto and i buy latte pods from the supermarket usually asda for £3.65 for 8 coffees i love it i think its great for a first coffee machine especially as you can get all different pods for them :)

The pod machines make coffee easy but I love my Gagia Classic so much! It steams the milk and then brews the espresso/coffee. Can't recommend it enough! Pricier than the pod machines tho but it depends what you want to spend.

We have a nespresso which was highly rated when we looked into them. It has a milk frother too which DD likes.

Another vote for dolce gusto. You get coffee and hot chocolate, capuchino and latte too

A friend has the Philips Senseo, you buy the pads not pods, which I quite like. Argos & Amazon have them on special for £49.99 at the minute - I'm tempted to get one (they only do the coffee, you have to zap the milk in the microwave, but it does make a good 'latte' all the same).

We have a Nespresso too. The coffee is fantastic and the initial pay out for the machines are reasonable but the capsules which you can only buy direct from them or in store in London are quite pricey. Having said that don't regret the purchase especially when you consider what you have to pay in any decent coffee shop.

I have a Nespresso- it makes fantastic coffee. If its only him drinking it a pod system is a good idea as the coffee doesn't go off. They're about 30p a cup, so cheaper than the Dolce Gusto supermarket ones. Nespresso are also doing an offer of a free milk frother when you buy 350 pods.

Hmmm. We're on our second Nespresso machine and the coffee is fine, especially when you factor in the convenience. The pods are about 29p each and I use 3 to a latte. Buying the pods online is no hassle, they arrive in 2 days via UPS. You can also order free bags for recyling the used pods, which they will collect for free.

However, I have just bought DH a Gaggia bean-to-cup machine for Christmas because we he really misses not being able to choose our own variety, and the coffee is much fresher tasting.

I don't like the Nespresso and although I love the smell of proper coffee brewing and grinding the beans etc - I only drink latte, so it's a bit of a faff for that! I need someone to move in who appreciates proper coffee so I can make it, but don't have to drink it Xmas Grin

I prefer my Dolce Gusto to my mum's Senseo

This morning we were having Mocha with a tiny teaspoon of Tescos salted caramel and Whiskey double cream , very decadent Grin

I do find it best for Lattes, Cappucinos and Mochas and Choccochinos. Its probably not so good if you just want a plain coffee. I quite like the expresso and they do a few decaff ranges as well as we only drink decaff at night.

Delayed reply chipping - yes my best friend has the gaggia baby and it seems to be just as good as my classic really.
We have had ours 5 years and it is still as good as new.

I suppose I am a coffee snob - I just love the traditional style of it and the smell of real coffee.. Pods don't appeal but I can see the convenience etc.

I bought DP a Nespresso as his early Christmas present - it's really good! I'm not much of a coffee drinker but this makes very good coffee and we have the milk frother too.

Bruffin - you need a healthy GLUG not a teaspoon!!

LiveInThePresent - As I said, I love the smell, I love grinding the beans, I love making 'proper' coffee - I just don't like drinking it Xmas Grin I think the thing I like about the senseo is that the things you put in it are like coffee bags (like tea bags) and it filters through them - I have an irrational dislike of the pods Xmas Confused

Ah I see the Dolce Gusto is a pod job as well. I don't know why, but I just don't seem to enjoy the ones made from Pods. Hmm - anyone know where I can go that will make me one so I can try again - just to be sure? There used to be a cafe near where I lived that was a 'Nespresso' so it was all pods.

We have just bought a Tassimo which was half price in Sainburys £59 and it's great as it has a bar code reader which calculates the correct amount of water and temp to make the drinks just so and frothy where required. There are so many varities of pods you are spoiled for choice - tea, coffee and hot choc and you get a £20 code for pods from the online shop. They have just started doing Costa pods and they are very good and on offer at several places.

We had a Dolce Gusto before but rarely used it so sold it on - it had a fairly small water tank whereas the Tassimo one is huge. Much prefer the Tassimo and the drinks are coffee shop quality which means I am saving money on my lattes!!

Chipping they are available in most supermarkets. I am arming up with a mocha as I type!!
