What veg do you usually have with the Christmas dinner. Fancy a change this year

Oooooh I will be having..... Broccoli cheese, broccoli on its own, honey roasted parsnips and potatoes, buttery sprouts (mandatory) carrots and peas usually! Sometimes some rogue unseasonal veg will get added to the mix.... Such as sweet corn and beer root because dh is somewhat of an addict. Mmmm am hungry...

MrsBungleBear · 01/12/2012 17:58

I usually do:

Roast pots (obvs!)
Roast parsnips with honey glaze
Leeks in onion sauce
Brussels (we love them - sometimes just steamed, sometimes steamed then fried in olive oil and garlic)
Peas
Carrots

Think that's about it veg wise. Xmas Smile

Roast potatoes
Roast parsnips (rolled in breadcrumbs and vegetarian Pretendy Parmesan)
Sprouts (of course)
Carrots (steamed then finished in butter and almonds)
Turnip- boiled and pureed with butter
Peas- DD insists
Broccoli

I use the water the veg are cooked in to make gravy and the Guinea-Pigs get the peelings Grin

Ooooh I like the sound of roast onions - may have to pinch that idea.

We usually have

Roast Potatoes
Carrot and parsnip mash
creamed celeriac
Brussel sprouts with chestnuts and bacon
Glazed carrots
Roast parsnips
braised red cabbage
Leeks in toasted cheese sauce

MrsBungleBear · 01/12/2012 19:20

Forgot about red cabbage! We have that also with grated apple in. Mmmm.

TheElfOnThePanopticon · 01/12/2012 19:40

Roast sprouts with bacon, roast root veg (probably carrots, parsnips, red onions, beetroot), roast potatoes and maybe mashed swede.

CherryMonster · 01/12/2012 20:50

we will be having roasties, mashed sweet potato, carrots, broccoli, parsnips and sprouts.

JellyM · 01/12/2012 20:52

Good ideas. Thanks all. Roast pots and parsnip are a must. Think I will do the usual carrot and swede and sprouts. This year I will give red cabbage and cabbage a go

Marks carrott and swede mash
Marks honey roast parsnips
Marks red cabbage
Homemade cauliflower cheese
Sprouts no one eats

BluelightsAndSirens · 01/12/2012 21:01

I fry Brussels leaves, it's the only way the DC will eat them.
We also have creamed leeks along with roast pots, parsnips, carrots and then peas (yuck)

With lashings of bread sauce and my nana gravy - can not wait!

I'm going to make cauli cheese for Boxing Day with cold meats, I can't imagine having cheese in my Christmas dinner but have read it is quite well known.

bondigidum · 01/12/2012 22:33

Cabbage mash
Roast potatoes
Honey roasted parsnips
Chanteney carrots

I'm also attempting Delia's braised red cabbage with apple this year Xmas Grin
