I'm thinking about getting DH a starter kit to start making his own beer (ale/bitter rather than lager), but I don't know where to start!
Can anyone recommend a shop or company that they have maybe used before, or anywhere to avoid?
There is loads online and I heard that wilkinsons also do it, but would like to go on a recommendation if possible. Thank you

Have you thought about buying the ingredients to make his own beer, as opposed to a kit? It's far more satisfying to make a brew from scratch. Having said that, it's ages since I last did it.

You need more kit to start from scratch, but having invested, that's what we do (when we get the chance), so I can't give much advice on kits. However, you might want to google on the type/brand of beer he likes (there's a Youngs kits I believe) and take it from there.

Otherwise you could go to the CAMRA website and get him a beer-related present.

Wilkensons has some kits to make your own. I saw them yesterday Smile

DH brews his own beer and revolting wine. Have a look at Home Brew Shop online for advice and the starter kits.

Brewing from scratch requires hours on eBay hunting down the equipment and filling the house with noxious fumes, days spent in the garage staring at the barrel occasionally tweaking a knob to release gas Grin

Fab thanks. Yep I think the kits are the way to go Smile
