It is now a thing that I buy dh a comic or graphic novel each Christmas. It is always something he has never read before and they have been a big hit! Grin Especially as I don't read them/ have any interest

In the pat I've got him walking dead (years before the tv series), DMZ, criminal, Y

Any ideas/ suggestions? He has a lot of comics! Shock

If he has read Maus (which he bloody well ought to have done) then maybe MetaMaus, which came out more recently? It's background stuff around the writing of Maus, things that weren't included, etc.

Of graphic novels/trade paperbacks...

Invincible
The Boys
Written

(if he hasn't read those)

Or maybe Prophet (Brandon Graham) which people rave about - I haven't read that myself yet, though (I persuaded my sister to buy it for DH for Christmas instead).

He has invincible and the boys (another favourite!) :)

It is bloody hard finding something they don't have already when your dh has such strong 'collecting' tendencies! Hmm

Nermalkins has already suggested it ... but Transmetropolitan (Warren Ellis) is great

We moved from a town with a comic book shop to a town without. DH now gets his from Forbidden Planet. I always feel a bit out of place in these type of shops too.

We used to go to London on NYE - there was a shop called comicana that had a half price sale.

I used to hang outside with DH , the queues, the waiting Hmm.
Never went in though, I'd have been 100% in the way.

Based on what you've said he likes I would strongly recommend <a class="break-all" href="//www.amazon.co.uk/Unwritten-Tommy-Taylor-Bogus-Identity/dp/1401225659?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">The Unwritten (Mike Carey) -- I tried to recommend it above but my phone helpfully autocorrected it to Written instead of Unwritten. It should be right up his street.

Or <a class="break-all" href="//www.amazon.co.uk/Sleeper-Season-TP-Sean-Phillips/dp/1401223605?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">Sleeper, but that got cancelled too early so while the build-up is fantastic you don't get the originalky-planned payoff. It's still fab though.

MrK is asking if MrSleepy has Hitman? It's Garth Ennis and Kevin Smith. Is always recommended to him.

Maus is also v good - as another poster has said.

Fatale is also good.

Thief of Thieves is also good

I say this - I have no idea, but MrK know his stuff Wink

Lunatic saw that Mr Sleepy like both Ennis and Smith so it looked like a double-whammy Wink MrK likes all that kind of thing but he's never read Hitman, he's working his way round to it apparently (and taking up more room as he does so with shelves of beautifully bagged comics Grin)

Actually, I might add Hitman to MrK's Christmas list. Marvellous!

Have been lurking and making a list. DH quite similar - reads a lot of graphic novels. I remember spending time queuing up to get one signed outside British museum by Alan whatshisname.
A local forbidden planet version here is my last resort each time. I shall go armed with a list this time and not look lost. Thanks all Wink

Btw Think geek does ship to UK. And it's a decent quality product you get too.

ThinkGeek charges a bloody fortune to ship to the UK, though (they were OK 10-15 years ago, but now it's crazy money).

Brilliant lists! :)

Hit man is a definite possibility. Thanks! :)

I generally have to see if I recognise the cover to see if dh owns the graphic novel or not!

MrsK - I am rather glad dh is slightly less precious with his comics - they are not bagged and generally strewn about the place (which I'm less keen on!) Hmm

Try Antony Johnston, the Wasteland series - they're great!

I'm a big fan of the Fables series, has he read those?

I just asked DH and he gave me this link, at the bottom it shows you links for new releases in December that you can pre-order. Could you buy him something that's just being released with instructions not to buy himself anything in the run up to Christmas?

Linky

If he's a fan of the marvel superheroes try Neil gaiman's 1602
It's a different slant on the marvel universe and absolutely brilliant!

Hi all!

Finally got round to sorting dh's present last night. I went for Saga as Brian K Vaughn is a favourite and Wasteland as he's currently reading a series by Antony Johnson thank you izzybobsmum.

Once I got round to looking in the comic stash I realised he already had hit man, and the Alan Moore suggestions and a few of the others.
The Authority looked perfect but I could t find it online for a reasonable £ or decent delivery time for Christmas -lunaticfringe I will heaving that for his birthday! :)
