Are they worth it? Can you download tv programmes (not iplayer) how do you purchase music and programme, not itunes?

The reviews on Amazon give you quite a lot of information about them. I've been considering one (especially at £99!) but have decided against it after reading the reviews.

Bump, would love to know what's wrong with it - just about to buy one for DD

I've ordered one. I wasn't going to bother with the fire because of the smaller memory, slower processor etc and had my eye on the Fire HD but £30 off swayed me.

You'll buy video and music through Amazon, much as you do with the current kindle and in the same way as iTunes.

The reviews aren't too bad. Some people are disappointed that it is less of an all singing all dancing tablet than they expected. I think if you're aware that it's primarily an ereader with a limited version of android that will let you get online and access some apps then you won't go far wrong. It's no ipad.

If you want a cheap tablet then go for the Google Nexus. If you want an ebook reader then the Fire looks pretty good.
