I'm hoping the MN massive won't let me down! I'm trying to find a new board game ( well one we don't already have, not new as such) to play at Christmas, along the lines of Pictionary, Cranium, Trivial Persuit etc. My mum is currently looking on Amazon, I have just tried explaining Mumsnet to her (she clearly doesn't get it at all!) and have told her you lot are better (far better of course) than Amazon reviews .... please don't let me down!!!

Should have mentioned, it will be played by adults, so doesn't need to be child friendly! Smile

The Destination board game is great - we have Destination "Hogwarts" due to Harry Potter mania in this house - it is fun, can take about an hour - requires only a little skill and a little luck (you draw destination cards - and plot your way round the board to get to each efficiently) and offers a chance for the kids to gang up on a parent! (deliberately landing on them to send them to a different place)
Other "destinations" are available - London based, Birmingham based etc...

We also have the Harry Potter Cluedo - which is FAB (aged 9+ though really)

Game of Life is good fun too and Carcasonne , and for a card based game it is hard to beat UNO.

Kill Dr Lucky - great fun
Settlers of Catan - good for 4 players
Ticket to Ride - we have the Europe version
Fluxx (card game with changing rules)

Logo is good fun and doesn't take much too thinking (ha ha). Scruples is really good fun but definitely just for adults (think it says 16+ on the box)Smile

There is a game called Articulate which we play every Xmas in our house - its great!

You basically have to describe a word from a category on a card - like pictionary a bit but with words instead of drawing!

Quirkle is a good one I've recently discovered.

Or if there are a few of you, try Pit. Huge fun, quick game, lots of shouting.

Oh, thanks guys ... will purchase a few and let you know how the obligatory drunken Christmas games go ... we're usually v tired, bit drunk and too competitive and everyone gets cross with me and my sister as despite having a few degrees and postgrad stuff between us, general knowledge does not seem to be our forte
