Home made christmas gifts of the non-edible kind (and sometimes just for us)

Thought I would start a thread for those of us enjoying the delicious home made gifts thread but will be making non edible gifts too because we can't cook.

So far I have made:
Crochet toddler jacket
crochet hotpads for serving dishes etc...
crochet hat and gloves
crochet tea set
(it's not all crochet I promise)
heart shaped wool dangly decoration thingy
When my dsis and her bf's dressing gowns arrive I will bling personalise them.

I will try and figure out pictures next....

Oh I'm not talented like that Pettyprudence, but will be making bath bombs with the DC and scented candles, clove pomanders, a front door wreath, candle wreaths and table decorations

I'm making muffs for a Christmas fair, and cushion covers for relatives.

racingheart - how do you make bath bombs? I love them and think my bff would love some.

poppy crochet hotpants would be waaaayyyyy cooler but not sure I want to see my dad in them

I did sewing stuff last year too but this year I seem to be crocheting everything, probably because of the huge amount of wool I want to shift out of my house

The ingredient that's really hard to get hold of now is powdered citric acid as apparently it gets used to make real bombs. I found some in an old fashioned hardware store, so that may be the kind of place to look. Used to be easier to buy online but it's a security risk now, apparently!

What type of yarn do you use for your hotpants Petty? I wondered how you get them heat proof?

I'm doing scarves (crochet beginner) but I think MIL would like the hotpants for her kitchen. I'm never going to be able to call them anything else now.

I am crocheting these for family and friends.

I'm also making a granny stripe poncho for my friends DD.

Those decorations look good. I could give them a go. I only picked up a needle a month ago because someone gave dd a set for her birthday and she couldn't make head nor tail of it.

The instructions were rubbish so I've looked at a couple of tutorials on YouTube. I don't think I'm up to much yet but I do love it.

I'm making a space canopy for ds2's bunkbed though. I'm a bit better at the sewing malarky.

oooh some lovely ideas. I've done a few microwave heat packs, kindle covers etc, and a mahoosive fluffy hello kitty beanbag for DN. Also some soaps, from a kit I had but it still counts. No point in bathbombs as only I ever have baths, MIL doesnt even have one.

FYI - Citric acid is used in wine/beermaking, so winemaking suppliers might a the place to look

I'm nearly finished a crocheted Gingerbread House, and then I'm hoping to do a crocheted christmas tree, and then the crocheted stars and angels either for the tree or as teacher gifts. Have experimented with oreo truffles/chocolates which are really good too. Last year I did afghans for my friends but I think they may be getting tired of always getting crocheted/knitted stuff.....

A crocheted gingerbread house. I want to do that! Did you have a pattern and was it hard? I might work up to that for next Christmas!

I have tried an ripped out a crochet hat 3 times. I can't seem to find a simple girls pattern, wanted to do one for my niece. If anyone could point me in the direction of one I'd be very grateful.
I'm making a monster/snuggle/ movie blanket for each of the dc for their Christmas eve present. Just from a fleece blanket but with felt face and pockets sewn on

TheOneWithTheHair I use pure wool, doubled over. I have no idea how heatproof it will really be, but wool is supposed to be pretty resistant to most stuff! I used this pattern and added another colour through the diagonal bit where the sides meet and you stitch up

Bathbombs - they used to sell citric acid over the counter in boots and you had to say why you were buying (homemade lemonade). I think too many people might have said bombs (and not the bath variety) and they stopped selling them GRR. I'll curb my rant there over .

Tonight I have made my nephew an iggle piggle blanket - did a blue blanket stitch around some red fleece - and customised some cheapy dressing gowns for my dsis and her boyf.

Trying to crochet a doily to go under the GP's teapot (have made the coasters) but I have just unravelled several hours work as I don't think I understood the instructions properly. GRR. I go to crochetpatterncentral.com for LOADS of free patterns.

I had a look at that website. It's busy. Now what to choose........

I am making some salt-dough painted, personalised tree decs for the teachers (eleven of them between three DCs!) and then crocheted snowflake decs for secret Santa at work.

That's enough frankly prob about it!

I've found some old wool jumpers which I am going to attempt to boil wash and felt and then chop up into Christmas decorations.
