hair crimper for 9 year old?

I know my 9 year old dd would love a hair crimper ( we are always putting hair in mini plaits to achieve same effect). I'm worried this would be a present too old for her though...what do you think? And does anyone know if you can buy child friendly ones that don't get too hot? Thanks!

have now bought the plastic rollers off ebay, and I went for a Babyliss crimper as well in the end - the one I got has 'stay cool' tips so hopefully she won't burn her fingers.
