Innotab for a 3 yr old - any good?

Does anyone recommend the Innotab for a three year old? I'm considering one for Xmas, but am wary of encouraging insular activities, or even worse, it gathers dust for the next year....

DD got one last Christmas when she was 3yrs 5 months. Was a hit although after an initial burst, she doesn't play on it much at home. Great for car journeys, planes, holidays etc. though.

DD1 had one last year at 3.4 (from the in-laws) I didn't really want her to have it, I felt she was too young to be glued to a screen, another thing to monitor time on, she mostly like the drawing bit. And she kept asking for it all the time when i thought she should be playing with toys

Took it on holiday and it ate batteries and then it broke (was not mishandled), so I do not recommend.

For v long journeys now we let her have the itouch (supervised), as that has games, movies, TV (I have got a bunch of kiddy stuff on it for her) - is smaller and easier to charge. Though I would not have got it specifically for her and she only gets it very occasionally.

I don't suppose anyone has any other good suggestions for a 3 year old girl?
